Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can it fit on DSLR's?

A: Hi JoseIt depends on the lens / sensor combination you chose to use. My configuration works just fine; Sigma 17-50 2.8 zoom on Canon 60D (APC sensor) Wider lenses will produce vignetting. Beware that the weight of the Mattebox can stress the lens if it is not sturdy enough - consider buying railmount? (zoom lenses often protrude when in use)

Q: 2. I'd like to use this hood on a wide angle converter lens (16x9 Inc. 169-HDWC8X-72 EXII 0.8x Wide Angle Converter) with the Sony FDR AX-100 camera. The hood web site says it can work with a bit wider lenses. The outside diameter of the converter lens is 98mm (with a filter size of 105mm - I don't understand but those are the numbers I keep getting?). I prefer to not use rails for this small camera. Thanks

A: The rear clamp for this matte box is 85mm and cannot accommodate 105mm or 98mm. As far as not using rails, such a small camera cannot accommodate such large conversion lenses and matte boxes without them.

Q: 3. how to connect this matte box with 24mm rokinon cine lens?

A: These clamp onto the external diameter of the front of the lens - in this case 83mm diameter.

Q: 4. The 85mm lens opening sounds non-standard. If the cinema lenses I'm considering have an 80mm opening, is it safe to expect this matte box to be able to clamp down from 85mm to 80mm in order to grip the cinema lens properly?

A: The Cavision 3x3 Matte Box Package has a flexible material draw-string light trap that will accommodate lenses from 85mm down to 50mm. This will prevent stray light from hitting the filters in the matte box from the rear.

Q: 5. what is the min/max filter thickness that will work with this matte box?

A: This matte box will work with any 4 x 5.65" sized filter. The standard for such a filter is 4mm thick.

Q: 6. Does this include plastic or metal filter trays?

A: The matte box comes with one of each 4x4 and 4x5.65 metal filter tray.

Q: 7. can this matt box fits my sony z5u lens if I use a 72mm ring adapter?

A: I don't know that particular lens, whether it moves in and out much. However, I use the matte box with several prime lenses with 72mm IR filters mounted on the front.

Q: 8. Can fit Cokin P Series filters (86mm)?

A: Is Cokin P filter 84mm in width instead of 86mm? cokin "P" filters fit loosely in filter stage slots only without using a filter tray. You can use filter tray locks on the side of the matte box to hold it in place.

Q: 9. Is this also compatible with the Panasonic AG-UX180 camera?

A: We do not recommend this system for a Camcorder the size of the UX180. This system is designed to work with DSLR cameras and lenses, which may have a smaller outer diameter. While the lens on the UX180 does not have a large filter thread, the outer diameter of it is what you need to watch out for. In our opinion the Redrock Micro microMatteBox Deluxe Bundle with a 142mm Lens Opening is a safer bet. You would just need a Baseplate system to go along with it.https://bhpho.to/2cdsxgxhttps://bhpho.to/2ejXTXc

Q: 10. Is there no way to close all the way? Ie fold in the sides and fold down the eyebrow?

A: When using the LanParte MB-02 matte box you would lower the top flag with the side flags on or remove the side flags. The Side flags fold to allow you to lower the top flag.

I use it on a Canon 24 to 70mm zoom lens, mounted on a slider with a sony a7s II. you can either attach it to a rail system or as a clamp-on to the lens. If you are going to use it in a portable setup I would only recommend using it with a rail system, the clamp on is good if you are not moving around much.

don't expect the build quality of a titla or redrock. its small, cute and plastic. it even arrived missing a few screws. But i can tell you this. it works with the tokina 11-16 @ 11mm on a metabones speed booster and NO VIGNETTING. it was tested on a gh4 - no vignetting in 4k mode and slight vignetting in 1080p mode. so on a gh3 or gh4 in 1080p you would need to be at 13mm. Still I've yet to see another matte box that won't vignette at with that setup. all in all I'm impressed with the little guy.

4x4 matte boxes are fine when you're shooting with the right sized camera but I'm using DSLR's a lot now and a full sized matte box looks stupid! The Cavision is the perfect size - the rig looks balanced. The matte box is light and the build quality is fine - it may not stand up to years of commercial work but it's better than a number of other larger matte boxes out there that cost more.

Good size and fit for a DSLR video rig. Can be used with a 15mm rail system or attached to the camera lens.

I recently bot this a couple of weeks ago. I used it on a shoot and it worked amazingly. For its price, it really helped with getting out shadows and getting rid of any unwanted light just like any other Matte box but simply for cheaper. Whilst it functions extremely well, something that is annoying about is that I had to buy a step up ring so that it could fit onto my camera which cost another $15 but it was completely worth it. I would recommend it to anyone who is currently in the first stages of learning how to rig out cameras as it really helps people learn about the usefulness of Matte Boxes

Ok first off, B&H kinda vets their stuff so I wasn't heistatant to take a chance on this matt box. Upon opening I was surprised for I was expecting a product of way lesser quality. All this thing needs to do is hold filters and block a direct hit from the sun from hitting the lens. I trust that it can do just that and for under a hundred bucks!

Also i was surprised at it's ample tooling making it possible to remove the top and side flags if needed, which will be a plus for me for I'm trying to build my rig as light as possible for handheld / gimbal use.

I didn't want to spend 500-700 on something like PolarPro base kit. I compared weights between their Base Camp and this thing here with the top flag and a filter. The Cavision came in at about 40grams heavier which is about the same weight as two 77mm plastic Canon lens caps. At this price i'll buy two and keep a spare.

This thing has dual filter stages one of which rotates and the holders features a compression spring tab based mech to hold them snug. I mean com'on!!

And I never usually write reviews on stuff because really, who has the time?

Despite being largely of ABS construction, this matte box is surprisingly sturdy. Everything locks and tightens firmly and stays in place during use. So far I'm very impressed with this unit, it provides affordable, light weight light control, ideal for cameras with lenses up to 85mm diameter. Also, I'm from the UK and it arrived from the USA in less than a week. Many thanks B&H.
