The black Microphone Madness MM-MCSM-1 Miniature Cardioid Stereo Microphones are uni-directional microphones that are well suited when noise levels have to be lowered. The microphone elements have been strategically mounted inside two brass cylinders that have been modified and designed for maximum recording saturation. The exterior of the cylinders is tightly enclosed in a durable rubber coating. Six feet of high-quality microphone cable exits each cylinder and are terminated into a 1/8" (3.5 mm) gold-plated mini-plug. These microphones come with SHURE 360° rotational and removable holding clips.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I use a Microphone Madness MM-MSLM Omnidirectional MatchStick Lapel Microphone (Black) with the Zoom H1N. Are there any adapters that I should have between the two or can the mic just plug into the recorder?

A: You don't need any adapters. It's a 3.5mm mic in on the H1 and a 3.5mm on the lav's connector. All you have to do is plug it in.

Q: 2. What's the difference between those and the BSM-9 of the same brand. I'm looking to do binaural recording with Silicone Ears. I've the Roland CS-10EM, would that compare? I'm trying to find the best around this price range. Cheers.

A: The BSM-7 and BSM-9 are similar aside from the capsules used. The BSM-7 uses a Panasonic 61 series capsule. The specs and size differ slightly from the BSM-9. BSM-7 capsules are smaller in size and offer better specs in dynamic range and signal to noise ratio. Both are comparable to the Roland CS-10EM with similar listed specs.

Q: 3. Will this work with plug-in power from these devices: Sony PCM-M10, Zoom H1N, EOS-M3, Canon 5D3 ?

A: The MCSM-4 can operate on 1.5 to 10 volts and will be compatible with most devices that provide plug in power.

Q: 4. Looking at this, the Countyman B6 and the Sanken COS-11D for a documentary I'm doing for a hospital in a small African country this summer. I know the B6 and 11D are highly regarded, but given the $ and my need for 2-3 mics while paying for them out-of-pocket, I want to find the best bang-for-buck without sacrificing a lot in sound quality. My big question before trying it is, how is the self-noise and handling-noise on this unit? Thx in advance.

A: The Microphone Madness MM-MSLM is an excellent microphone for the money, relatively quiet, and not too bad on the handling noise. You may want to pick up some hush lav quieting sleeves (used with the sanken lavs) to better isolate the microphone from rustling noise. Also, please not the microphone requires power via bias voltage; 1 to 9 VDC.

Q: 5. I'd like to use these for frequency response measurements. Can you provide a calibration file for the binaural elements?

A: I use these for frequency response measurements and they work fantastically well without any calibration file. I was mostly worried about imbalance between the channels but I did my best to measure the differences between the two and the tolerances were tight enough not to make any impact to my measurements.

Q: 6. What are people using to mount these, and to minimize clothing noise?

A: It's really more about where you are mounting these rather than about what you are mounting it with.I use basic Rycote Undercovers as the sticky element and then I find a dead spot under the subject's clothing.

Q: 7. Are the clips removable?

A: yes.

Q: 8. Does this version have the locking (screw-on) 3.5mm jack? Such as for a Sennheiser G3, or DR-10L?

A: No, this microphone has a non-locking 3.5mm TRS connector for use with a recorder, camera or a device with a standard mic input. We do offer the omnidirectional Microphone Madness Lavalier Mic for Select Sennheiser Systems in black (B&H # MIPSMLSRBL) or beige (B&H # MIPSMLSRBE) as a special order item. We do have a selection of other mics that are compatible with Sennheiser transmitters and the DR-10L. Please feel free to contact us through live chat or by phone if you would like further assistance. You can reach us by phone at 800-606-6969 or 212-444-6615.

Q: 9. Will this work with a digital recorder or a VIXIA 82 camcorder?

A: thank you for your question. This will work with the Vixia 82 an with any audio recorder that has a stereo mic input and can provide plug in power.

Q: 10. can I use these on my D5100 ?

A: The Microphone Madness BSM-8 is compatible with the Nikon D5100. The BSM-8 features a stereo 3.5mm jack for direct connection to the camera.
