$222.00 $301.92

The gray SCHOEPS MS-BLM M/S Double Clamp is used for M/S (Mid-Side) recordings with a BLM 3g Boundary Layer Microphone. The larger side of this clamp holds the microphone amplifier (e.g. CMC) or capsule connector of the KC Active Cable, screwed onto the BLM 3g. The smaller side either holds an active cable with an MK 8 capsule or a CCM 8 U compact microphone, which should be placed over the sound inlet of the BLM 3g.

The engraved numeral 8 on the end of the MK 8 capsule or the CCM 8 U compact microphone should lie parallel to the plate of the BLM 3g, and the red dot should point to the left when viewed from behind the microphones.

An advantage of the M/S technique is the ability to easily make adjustments during post-production. The M and S channels can be directly recorded and matrixed into the stereo left and right signals in playback. The apparent width of the stereo image can then be appropriately set for the given situation.

Allows M/S stereo pickup with the BLM 3g in the mid channel

Clips for 0.32" (8mm) and 0.79" (20mm) diameter

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. anyone have a preferred softie windjammer for this mic that doesn't add too much bulk to it? lots of the ones listed for accessories here are for regular length shotguns. thanks

A: Given its extremely small size, presently there is no softie windjammer available. The best way to shield the Schoeps MiniCMIT against wind noise is by using a windshield kit; BH# RY086072.

Q: 2. Do they make these in black?

A: The Schoeps B5-D Hollow Foam Windscreen is available in gray, and chroma green. Unfortunately, there isn't a black color available. Here is a link to the Chroma Green version: https://bhpho.to/3IO8zHM

Q: 3. How much weight can this support?

A: I use mine to connect to a counterweight for balance on a camera rig -- around five pounds. The clamp seems fairly sturdy and could probably handle even more weight (within reason).

Q: 4. What is the smallest diameter pole that will fit this clamp?

A: The smallest diameter which the CC-128 Double Super Clamp can attach to is 1/2 .

Q: 5. Would mounting this on camera work well when trying to get audio of a moving documentary subject?

A: Yes, the Schoeps CMC641 Set Colette Series Supercardioid Microphone Set could indeed serve as a high-quality on-camera microphone for capturing the audio of subjects in close range situations. The camera would need to be equipped with a 48V capable XLR input connection to accommodate the Schoeps.

Q: 6. Hey guys, is this product the right one to get if I plan on using with a SD 633 mixer which can supply 48V phantom? It's confusing to know whether I need this or the more expensive $1900 mic. How does it compare with Senn 8060 or MKH 50? Is this mic no good in humid conditions or with possible RF interference?

A: Thank you for your Question. If humidity and RF are a big concern i would highly recommend sticking with the 8060. The Schoeps is great but it does not have built in protections again humidity or RF interference.

Q: 7. Is this compatible with a Mixpre10 II mixer?

A: No, this breakout cable has no application with the Mixpre10ii.

Q: 8. What is a good schock mount/suspension holder to fit this microphone? I realize this mic is predominantly used indoors, but if I am in a situation where I need to use it outside, what product to reduce wind effect will fit this mic?

A: I have a Rycote Blimp with a lyre mount for bad windy conditions and the usual dead kittens for general breezes. But you said it yourself, this is an indoor mic. Moreover, it is a short mic so not so great at a distance of more than a few feet unless you have an amplified audio target. If you have critical audio needs outdoors, your better bet is to rent a good shotgun mic or buy something like the Sennheiser 416, Sanken Cs3, or Schoeps CMIT if you want to go all in. I have used the CMC6 outdoors (without needing a blimp). If you can get in close, it's OK but at say four or five feet, I don't know that the 'Schoeps' difference is any longer in effect. These weren't scientific shootouts and audio environments vary but I suspect plain old microphone physics trump German engineering at a certain distance.

Q: 9. Can the clamps be set parallel? Or is the joining stud itself offset?

A: No. The clamps can not be turned. They are permanently attached and fixed in the orientation you see in the product photo.

Q: 10. How far can a speaker be and the cmc641 would still pic up the voice

A: Beyond 5-6 feet, a speaking voice will start to sound distant from the Schoeps CMC641 Set Colette Series Supercardioid Microphone Set (Gray).

This is easy to get into place and manipulate with one hand while holding it with the other. Some clamps are clunky for me to handle because they are made with beefy guy's hands in mind. I was worried about springing for this, but within 3 hours of getting it, it made itself a favorite.

These clamps are the best. I use these clamps to hold camera lights, boom arms, and my desktop studio monitors stands in place. Anyone who works in the production field needs these in their gear case.

There are a ton of clamp options on the market, including replicas of Cardellinis from other manufacturers. We own a few different makes of jaw style clamps, and while they all work, threading a lock knob down a 4 - 6 shaft with poorly machined threads multiple times a day on set makes you want to throw lesser clamps out of the nearest window. If you work in production full time, save yourself some grief and get the real deal.

With respect to this particular product, I love having both spuds on either end of the shaft, and the threads are so well machined all you have to do is pop the lock knob and it spins down the shaft. Super easy to deploy and is entirely invaluable in some circumstances.
