This clamp measures 1.5" between the centers of the ball recesses and is built around a 1/4"-28 fine thread bolt. Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this ballhead hold nikon d800 plus 80-400 mm lens?

A: The combined weight of the Nikon D800 DSLR camera and the Nikon is 5.43 lbs. As such, the would work to support your camera/lens setup. While it is personal preference, as a safety precaution, I typically like recommending tripod heads with a maximum load capacity that is 3x higher than the combined camera/lens setup weight. As such, my personal recommendation would usually be for the Really Right Stuff BH-40 Ball Head with B2-mAS Mini Clamp, B&H # REBH40PRO, or if you needed a head with a smaller base diameter, the Really Right Stuff BH-30 Ball Head with Mini Screw-Knob Clamp, B&H # REBH30PRO, is a good option, but yes, the Really Right Stuff BH-25 Ball Head would work for your usage needs.

Q: 2. Does this truly pan 360 degrees or is panning achieved only by movement of the ball?

A: The BH-25 will pan by the movement of the ball head. The BH-30 will have a seperate panning lever. See: https://bhpho.to/2yDP42r.

Q: 3. Is anyone using this on a Gitzo GT2545T(Series 2 Traveler)? Or too big for the tripod?

A: If you are serious about photography, this is a very good ball head. I like it very much. Of course, when you are searching this ball head, I assume you have a good tripod too, not something wobbly cost $100 level

Q: 4. Will this fit on the Feisol TT-15 Mark 2 Mini Carbon Fiber Tabletop Tripod?

A: Yes, the Really Right Stuff BH-30 Ball Head with Mini Screw-Knob Clamp is compatible with the FEISOL TT-15 Mark 2 Mini Carbon Fiber Tabletop Tripod, B&H # FETT15M2.

Q: 5. will this ballhead hold a niko d800 and 80-400 lens?

A: That lens and camera weigh nearly 6 lbs, which is too close to the load capacity of 8.8 lbs. You can never have too much capacity. This RRS ballhead would be a much better option: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1301053-REG/really_right_stuff_bh_30_pro_bh_30_ballhead_with_mini.html

Q: 6. Can the release plate be replaced with the Manfrotto RC-4 plate?

A: No it won't work, I just tried it on mine. The RC-4 plate is too wide for the RRS clamp and it has a profile that doesn't match up with the Arca Swiss style of the BH-55 Screw Clamp. I still use my Manfrotto systems, but prefer the RRS for heavier gear like a full size camera with battery grip and a big lens.

Q: 7. Will this work with the peak design pro plate?

A: Yes, it will.

Q: 8. Can this be use on Robus RC-5570 Vantage Series 3 Carbon Fiber Tripod ?

A: Yes, it is compatible with the Robus 5570.

Q: 9. How much turning is required to open/close the clamp of the screw-knob version?

A: To does not take many turns to open or close the clamp on the Really Right Stuff BH-40 Ball Head with Full-Size Screw-Knob Clamp. But if you do not want to slide the plate out and have it come from above you need to loosen it more.

Q: 10. Will the screw knob interfere with a fold down lcd screen on the D850?

A: Typically not, but if for some reason you are experiencing this issue, just turn the camera around. You can orient the camera on its L-bracket/plate with the screw knob facing forward/under the lens rather than behind the camera.
