Stylishly sleek, the Leica L-mount Sigma 65mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens is a shot-tele/long-normal prime offering a unique field of view well-suited to portraiture and selective everyday shooting. Complementing the slightly long focal length is a bright f/2 design that helps to maintain a portable form factor while also contributing to low-light performance and depth of field control. Optically, this 65mm f/2 includes a pair of aspherical elements and one low dispersion element in its design to control a variety of aberrations and achieve notable sharpness and clarity. A Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied, which reduces flare and ghosting for greater contrast.

Benefitting handling, this lens features a stepping motor for quick and quiet AF performance that suits both photo and video applications. As an I Series lens, too, this lens incorporates a manual aperture ring and all-metal barrel constriction into its design for enhanced tactility. Additionally, there is a rounded nine-blade diaphragm for smooth bokeh quality and the lens housing is also weather-sealed to suit working in inclement conditions.

I Series lens emphasizes a sleek and stylish physical design that is built to the same operational standards of Sigma's Cine lenses, including a mechanical aperture ring, knurled metal components, and various switches and tactile controls for intuitive operation.

Bright f/2 maximum aperture strikes and ideal balance between speed and size and manages to maintain a compact physical profile while also offering low-light performance and depth of field control.

One Special Low Dispersion (SLD) element markedly reduces chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color accuracy.

Two aspherical elements help to control distortion and spherical aberrations for a high degree of sharpness and accurate rendering.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

Integrated stepping motor realizes smooth and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an internal focusing design to promote greater responsiveness.

Manual aperture ring includes an 'A' position for camera-based aperture selection.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity and rubber sealing is incorporated in the mount's design to render it dust- and splash-resistant.

Excellent build quality. Superb sharpness. Good colour. While it may seem an odd focal length to some, I've grown to love the slightly tighter 'normal' view. Better-feeling manual focus than many, and the aperture ring feels just right. No issues with AF. I pair it with the Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN for general photo walks.

I'm shooting this on a Leica SL2 and am totally delighted with it. I've always used an 85mm for portraits and this 65mm has now replaced that focal length. And, shooting wide open at f2 is no compromise. I now have two of these Sigma Contemporary lenses for my SL2, this 65mm and the 45mm. I also use them on my Leica CL. I'm just as happy with the rendering on that camera.

I was using the Sony 55mm lens and though it is a great lens and very sharp, it is becoming a little bit dated. I actually prefer the Sigma lens more. True the Sony is a faster lens, but for my uses, the f2 on the sigma works just fine. Plus, I love how compact it is. My small traveling kit is now the Sony 20mm f/1.8 G lens, the Sigma 65mm and the Sigma 90mm. Very small and excellent quality. Use them on my Sony a 7riii.

I'll preface this review by saying I bought this lens to use on my Leica CL, so I can't comment on its full frame performance. That said, the performance with the CL is outstanding. The image quality is in the same league as my Leica APO Vario-Elmar 56-135mm, which costs three times as much. This lens is much better built than other Sigma Contemporary lenses I've seen and it functions flawlessly. I appreciate the simple, but effective control layout. Let's hope this signals a new trend for the Contemporary series.

I'm impressed. A lightweight 65mm lens with remarkable sharpness and ease of use. 65mm is the street photography lens of the pandemic, allowing you to get close without getting close. This is a very workable focal length. I have found 90mm and 75mm too limiting, given that I usually shoot with a 35mm lens. Sigma is producing some excellent lenses for the Leica SL and L mount cameras. I think that this lens plus the 35mm Leica SL would make an excellent urban travel kit. Recommended. I have attached some walking around the neighborhood photos that illustrate its quality.

I was surprised at the level of sharpness from this lens, even at F2. I was not expecting this level of sharpness and detail I thought could only be found in a ProArt or GM. The bokeh looks very pleasing. Built quality great. Focus is very fast with no hunting. I was looking for a compact lens for my Sony mirrorless and the new I series is perfect.
