As part of the Contemporary line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve a balance between convenience and performance and meshes a compact, lightweight build and versatile handling with notable optical attributes.

I-series lens emphasizes a sleek and stylish physical design that is built to the same operational standards of Sigma's Cine lenses, including a mechanical aperture ring, knurled metal components, and various switches and tactile controls for intuitive operation.

Short-telephoto 90mm lens is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, however, can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 135mm equivalent focal length.

Five Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements markedly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color accuracy.

One aspherical element helps to control distortion and spherical aberrations for a high degree of sharpness and accurate rendering.

Integrated stepping motor realizes smooth and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an internal focusing design to promote greater responsiveness.

Manual aperture ring includes an 'A' position for camera-based aperture selection.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity and rubber sealing is incorporated in the mount's design to render it dust- and splash-resistant.

I'm a big fan of 85mm for pretty much all types of photography (travel, landscape, portraits), so this is a great lens for me since it's small and light and easy to carry around. Much easier to grab and take out than a bulky f1.4 or zoom lens. I've had a lot of fun and satisfaction using this lens simply because of its size. Obviously, it's somewhat limited by only being an f2.8, but I'm fine with that as I usually know ahead of time whether lighting will be good. On a sunny day f2.8 is more than enough. f2.8 also still gives plenty of bokeh in my opinion, and the bokeh on this lens is well rendered and well transitioned between in- and out-of-focus. It's sharp wide open (at least from what I can tell with my layman eyes) and the lens has the typical excellent Sigma build quality. Overall: a niche lens that's not for everyone, but I think the people it appeals to will adore it.

My first with Sigma lens on my Leica SL2 body. Nice light weight and excellent image quality for portraits.. 2.8 is plenty for portraits so I passed over the faster bigger 85mm.

This Compact Ultralight Durably Steel Made Telephoto Lens is super sharp and fun to use. The bokeh it renders was creamy and does not disappoint. Might not have the depth of field as the Sigma 85 F1.4 but it produces sharp amazing photos with great color rendering. But with the right distance being a prime lens, the bokeh is impressive. Almost exchange it with the 85F1.4 Sigma but after taking iit out for some street photography and architectural photos, it is definitely staying.

Sigma's i-series lenses are a standout at every focal length for their compactness while maintaining enough quality to produce great shots.

This 90mm is going to get compared heavily against Sony's 85mm f/1.8, and for good reason. I've had both, and I chose the Sigma.

The Sony 85mm f/1.8 is a fantastic lens with great qualities, many better than the Sigma 90mm, but the category that kept it out of my bag the most is size. Do I wish the Sigma 90mm was a bit faster? Yes. Do I wish the Sigma 90mm had less distortion, vignetting, and CA? Also yes.

The Sigma wins hands down in size, and size is a priority in the type of shooting I like to do (compact travel kit). I can fit the Sigma 35mm f/2 and the Sigma 90mm f/2.8 is a small sling and get 90% of the shots I want when I'm traveling. I can swap either for the Sony 20-70 f/4 if I think I need it. The Sony 85mm f/1.8 is a great lens, better than the Sigma 90 f/2.8 in many categories, but it's just a little harder to work into a travel kit for me.

And besides, vignetting and distortion can be fixed in post, and CA isn't so bad that post-correction can't fix most of it!

One of my first Sigma lenses and I use this on the SL2-S. I love everything about this lens. It's sharp, has great colors and it's small size is a blessing. Balances nicely on my Leica. I may have to buy the entire i-series for my primes.

I absolutely love this lens. It is sharp as hell, small, fast enough for almost any situation, and darn good looking! Love the aperture ring on the lens and the M/AF switch. Coupled with a 16mm macro tube it makes a great lens for close up photos. I have other good lenses but this one pretty much stays on my A7RII since I bought it. Oh, did I say I love it!! - Just buy it - you wont be sorry!!

I have the Sony 85mm f1.8 also however this is better for travel and the images are really nice, much smaller than the Sony. I wanted to keep this as a low profile so I do not use the hood and purchased a Tiffen Series 8 55 mm Screw-In Lens Adapter with Retaining Ring New Old Stock at Ebay and makes a beautiful small hood

I wanted a light short tele lens to pair with my 16-35 and Voigtlander APO 50. Even wide open this lens is hard to distinguish from the CV50, which i consider to be an optical wonder for landscapes. The aperture and min focus distance are sufficient for me for detail shots too. It is tiny and light. So sharp that cropping won't be an issue when i don't want to carry the 135.
So glad that sigma made this series. Small, high quality, beautiful build.

Bought this lens to compliment the Leica 24-70mm f/2.8 lens. Pleasantly surprised by both build quality and image quality. Lens is also compact for a 90mm. Great value.
