When you extend the zoom, the barrel does not have a coat.An wrap does come with the LensCoat lens cover that you can wrap around the barrel when fully extended. The wrap is fastened with Velcro. With the wrap in place, the barrel can not be retracted. If you leave this wrap off, you can freely move the barrel (zoom).
