Q: 1. Is this mount compatible with the footing on the new Nikkor Z 600mm/f4 VR S lens?
A: The AP-554 will not fit but the AP-502 will. Please take a look at the following link: https://bhpho.to/3BLwbwl
Q: 2. What is the recommended backpack (with good protection) to carry this lens with reverse hood attached to a Nikon D5 camera?
A: The Think Tank Photo Glass Limo Backpack (Black), BH # THGL is a suitable backpack for your D5 with this Nikon lens attached. https://bhpho.to/2K1XGcx
Q: 3. Is it compatable with Nikon Z 7 Mirrorless Digital Camera with FTZ Mount Adapter Kit?
A: Yes, if you have the FTZ Mount Adapter it should work with the Nikon Z7. https://bhpho.to/2Q95k3e
Q: 4. Could you please explain exactly what Nikon refurbished means? Can you give examples as to why a lens would be refurbished? Does a refurbished lens still have the same manufacturer’s warranty as a new lens? Is it a US model or gray market model?
A: Hi, Refurbished items are products that for many reasons did not meet early quality controls at the factory so were not shipped initially. After testing, a manufacturer may determine a product meets all the specifications but does not want it sold as new. A “Refurb” is such an item; which has never been sold, meets the advertised specifications and includes a warranty which may be shorter than the original one offered for a “new” item.
Q: 5. Is this foot any LESS rigid than the Wimberly 553 foot with the lower profile?I would love to have the HANDLE capability of the 554, but I don't want to sacrifice rigidity for it.Thanks,Dan
A: It is not less rigid. They are about the same.Using the shorter one gives you a better center of gravity and some prefer that for such a large lens. But either one will work.
Q: 6. How is handholding this if it’s only being held while shooting (i.e. it spends most of the time in a bag/on a shoulder strap)?
A: The lens is much lighter than one would expect and the stabilization in it is phenomenal so hand holding shots is quite spectacular. Depending on the camera and how long you're shooting for it can get a bit heavy so I would recommend having a strap that slings from the body to the shoe of the lens for longer more comfortable shooting lengths.
Q: 7. Hey i Will ask you if the Nikon 400mm f2.8 do well on the new Nikon d5 I just have bought. And I have also the Nikon 300mm f4 and it is pretty sharp is the 400mm f2.8 sharper ore do you think it is around the same?
A: The Nikon f2.8 and D5 are an awesome team. The D5 by itself is incredible for low light and all other conditions. Recently used it at night in Disneyland to record the Water/Laser shows. Did a amazing job. I also like the D5 with my Nikon 80-400 lens for flexible shooting.
Q: 8. Does this lens come with a case?
A: Yes. The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8E FL ED VR Lens comes with the CT-405 Trunk Case.
Q: 9. What tripod is recommended for this lense and the D810?
A: Sometimes I use a Gitzo GT3540 with a Wimberley Sidekick, but that is the lightest I would go. Too easily affected by breeze and mirror slap. The one I prefer is a RRS TVC-4X with a gimbal. That rig is much more stable but heavy. Probably something in between those two would be ideal. I find that the lens can be hand-held for a few brief bursts.
Q: 10. Where are these lens manufactured?
A: This is manufactured in Japan.
