The Tiffen 52mm 2 Sepia Solid Color Filter adds a warm, pale greenish-brown coloration across the entire image to provide a nostalgic, old-fashioned appearance. The solid color design makes this filter well-suited to pairing with other filters for further control over the appearance of imagery. The 2 color density provides less sepia coloration than the 3 density, but more than the 1 density filter.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What Nm is this filter? 720? 950? thanks!

A: This filter allows zero light to be passed below 580nm, at 700nm is allows 86.5% to pass.

Q: 2. So you can put all 3 ND on each other and make a 9 stop ND filter? Will these all stack with each other with a step up ring on? I have a 55mm thread filter lense I want to use this for to but I want them to stack with all of my lenses with step down rings

A: You can stack all three of these filters to create 9 stops, however by doing so you are increasing barrel length. This may result in vignetting as your camera may see the filter rings when shooting at wide focal lengths. A step up ring from 55 to 72mm may help with this, a step down ring would have the opposite effect and result in severe vignetting.

Q: 3. How would this filter behave when shooting a sunrise?

A: While it will depend on the size of the sun in your image (and to some extent, your chosen aperture and focal length), it should behave similar to the sample image on our website. The main difference is, as the sun is both a large and bright light source, the points in the star would be much wider than when photographing a smaller light source or a small specular highlight. The size of the bands would typically depend on the size of the sun in the image. As focal length plays a part in the size of the sun (as well as the sun's position in the sky and/or as it approaches the horizon), wide angle lenses may typically have thinner points, while telephoto lenses would have wider points.

Q: 4. Will this work with digital as well as film cameras?

A: Yes indeed! Although to work re infrared the digital camera would need to be adjusted to take infrared images.I hope this helps.Baer

Q: 5. Does this filter add a color cast to the image?

A: Yes when it’s at its darkest. Makes everything blue and unusable. Other than that no. I still get a lot out of it.

Q: 6. I've been searching everywhere for a variable ND filter for my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. Is this the one that will fit? It fits on the end of the lens right? I have an Olympus 40-150mm 1:4-5.6. then it has a circle with a line through it and a 58 by it. thats the filter thread, right? so if i have an olympus 17mm 1:2.8 pancake lens with a circle with a line through it and a 37 next to it, thats a 37 thread so I'll need this one, right: Polaroid 37mm Neutral Density Fader Filter

A: That is correct. The Olympus 40-150mm f/4-5.6 accepts 58mm filters, and the Olympus 17mm f/2.8 will accept the 37mm filter.

Q: 7. how do these tiffen lens stack up to Coken filters?

A: Cokin are square or rectangular and you need to use a filter holder and adapter ring. These you just screw on the lens, not need to carry extra parts. The advantage of the Cokin is if you want to stack many filters and you are using a wide angle lens, there is less chance of vignetting with the Cokin in that situation. Also in the Cokin if you use a graduated neutral density you can raise and lower the filter to place the horizon anywhere. With a round filter if you get a graduated ND the horizon will always be in the center.

Q: 8. Is this filter multicoated?

A: no

Q: 9. Do these filters still use the 58mm lens cap?

A: Yes, filters with 58mm threads will use a 58mm lens cap.

Q: 10. Do these filters have screw on threads so you can stack filters?

A: Yes, the fronts of the filters are threaded at 77mm size also so you may stack them upon one another.

The Tiffen UV filters are excellent for the price. They have a quality, precision construction. The glass is totally clear and the packaging is nice. The best part is they are made in the USA! (I bought this filter to protect my Sigma 30mm F2.8 micro four-thirds lens).

This is great. It makes me feel more secure about my expensive lens. If something happens(scratch or other light damage), this filter will save me much more money.
