The gray Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone with Normal Sensitivity and Universal TA5F Connector for Lectrosonics Transmitters is a subminiature lav microphone designed to deliver clear, full-bodied sound and reliable performance, making it a popular choice among industry professionals in broadcast, TV, theater, film, videography, and more.

Engineered to meet the standards of modern digital wireless microphone systems, the COS-11D is RF shielded to eliminate interference issues and ensure a pristine audio signal. The microphone capsule features a rectangular design that sits vertically, increasing the surface area and allowing this tiny mic to offer a rich, full sound that outperforms many larger models.

The mic's 50 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response rolls-off extreme low end and provides accurate, transparent audio reproduction with a small presence boost in the 6 kHz area for crisp, intelligible speech. With a forgiving omnidirectional polar pattern that picks up sound in a 360° pattern, levels stay consistent, even when the subject turns away from the mic.

A water-resistant mesh screen protects against humidity, perspiration, makeup, bad weather, and other potential on-location issues, while the durable cable is also moisture-resistant and built to stay soft and pliable, even after extended use. This version of the COS-11D terminates in a universal TA5F connector that is wired for use with both servo-bias and non-servo-bias Lectrosonics transmitters. A metal windscreen, holder clip, rubber mount, and plastic case are included.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I've plugged this in to my recorder via the Senal PS-48B-35H Phantom Power Supply that's listed as a recommended accessory for this mic, with 48V phantom power turned on. However, I'm getting a very very low signal from the microphone, peaking at around -32Db even with the gain on my recorder turned all the way up. Did I get a dud or is there something I've missed here?

A: So you checked the gain, have you checked the fader? Is their a pad setting switched on the recorder or the Senal? My last suggestion is to check the voltage of LR44 batteries. Maybe they're about dead. Try switching to providing phantom power from the recorder.

Q: 2. i need a sanken mic cos11d for senn ew 100 g3 series just wondering the exact microphone?

A: Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Mic, Normal Sens, Hardwired 1/8 TRS Connector for Sennheiser Evolution Wireless Transmitter (with Accessories, Black), is the correct microphone for the Sennheiser ew100 G3.

Q: 3. Will this work seamlessly with the Sony UWP-V1 wireless system, which uses the UTX-B2V Beltpack Transmitter?

A: Yes, the Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone is compatible for use with the transmitter included with the Sony UWP-V1 Wireless Lavalier Microphone System.

Q: 4. I have bought this mic and when plugged into my Sennheiser EW-G3 transmitter I get no signal at all, is there a setting I need to change? The transmitter works with ME-2 Mic, recording to a Zoom H6. Thank

A: Hi. This mic is great but comes with some strange and quite dealbreaking features. I sent my first one back due to a high pulsating noise that it created along with very low input volume. Got a new one and same thing. I'm paring it with a Sennheiser G3 unit and a zoom H6 as well and just by chance I notised that I had perfect sound when pulling the plug out of the G3 transmitter a millimiter or so. If you stick it all the way in, it wont work. Obviously this is crap and I'm only using it when I have a subject that I know will be pretty much completely still and I always have to fibble around with it for a while but then again, It produces greeeeat sound for a Lav. /Marcus

Q: 5. Do I need servo bias for Lectro SMQV?

A: Yes, the Lectrosonics SMQV Transmitter does have Servo Bias input, so you can use the Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone with Normal Sensitivity & Servo-Bias TA5F Connector for Lectrosonics Transmitters - with Accessories, Black (B&H # SAC11WNLSMB) instead of the Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone with Normal Sensitivity & Non-Servo TA5F Connector for Lectrosonics Transmitters (with Accessories, Black).

Q: 6. Will this work with Sennheiser AVX?

A: It should work just fine assuming you are using a 1/8 locking connector for the bodypack.

Q: 7. Does this locking connector Sennheiser work with the RODE GO PRO?

A: The locking connector for the Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone with Normal Sensitivity & 3.5mm Locking Sennheiser Connector (with Accessories, Black), BH #SAC11WNSETRB, will work with a RODE Wireless GO II or the RODE wireless PRO.

Q: 8. Can I plug this directly into a Sony A7III?

A: The Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone with Normal Sensitivity & 3.5mm Locking Connector for Sony Transmitters (With Accessories, Black) is made specifically for Sony wireless transmitters and is not able to be connected directly to camera inputs such as that of the Sony A7III Camera.

Q: 9. will this work with a regular recorder like the Roland R05?

A: This model of the Sanken COS11D is wired specifically for use with the Sony UWP wireless system, transmitters. it is likely it will produce audio when connected to the Roland R05, however the locking connector prevents the mic jack from being properly seated. This would not be recommended for use other than intended. Sanken does not currently offer a model compatible with portable audio recorders. There are several mics that are designed for portable recorders and offer similar quality such as the Tram TR50 see B&H# TRTR50BNLSET or Countryman EMW. B&H # COMEMWSFF05B.

Q: 10. Does this work with the Track E recorder?

A: Unfortunately we have not tested E Track with this Sanken cos 11 Sennheiser lavalier. You can still purchase and tested for yourself we have a store return until Feb 1 2020

Normally, I record with XLR mics, the Tram TR50 or Sennheiser MKH416, onto a Sound Devices 702. Pretty high quality setup. This microphone takes the Sennheiser wireless packs from terrible (with the included ME2 mics) to pretty good. (that's supposed to be a compliment) Perhaps a bit hot on the high end, but so much crisper and clearer than the ME2s. Worth the money.

With a diaphragm 5 times bigger than most lapel mics, it captures a full spectrum sound with a nice bass. The wire is also less rumbly than usual. It sounds fuller than an excellent Sennheiser MKE 2.

I watched a national TV station and they used the Sanken for all the deeper baitone-bass voices.

In Japan it got a big innovation award, deservedly, for putting the diaphragm along rather than across the mic.

Excellent mic with clean audio. We use this in conjunction with the Countryman and Tram. They all sound comparable but this one has, by far, the least handling noise (clothing rustle) and is, therefore, much easier to hide. I recommend getting the MZA-900P in addition to give you the option of going straight to the camera in case your G3 system is too noisy.

I had a shoot a week ago that I bought this for. Previously, I had a Tram TR50 and the Senn. ME2's that came with my G3's. I got the Cos-11D along with the Garfield hush lav foams and it was spectacular. I had to mic up about 35-40 people in 2 days and hide the mic. This mic sounded outstanding and was so easy to hide with the hush lav and not get clothing rustle. The Tram still sounds great, but the next lav I buy will be another Cos-11D because of the build. Just so much easier to hide and keep quiet.

Great choice for hiding a mic under an actor's wardrobe; sounds incredible and easy to mix with a boom mic (well you know, relatively.) Works great with a G3, just get the gain staging correct and you're good to go.

Easy to hide under clothing and absolutely produces a richer tone than the kit Sennheiser mics. Was skittish about this purchase because of the cost, but after testing it out I’m glad I pulled the trigger. Now I don’t have to have a visible mic on my interview subjects.

The great and unique property of the Sanken COS-11D is that because its membrane is much bigger than the one of other lapel mics, it captures the bass. On national TV, people with a low voice all use the Sanken.
It is eerie how close this mic comes to a very good stage mic. With even fewer problems, no plosives, no s-eses. If you have a heavy breathing, attach it with the head down.
I have the best Sennheiser lapel mic, the MKE2, but the Sanken gets a much richer sound.
It works with any pack with phantom power for which the connector fits, or using a Rode VXLR+ adapter directly into a preamp or mixer.
