Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the lens hood for this lens the same as the one for the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens?

A: The Canon 50mm STM RF lenses uses the ES-^%B hood which is not the same hood that the EF mount version uses. Please take a look at the following link: https://bhpho.to/3U4P0Bn

Q: 2. Will these fit a CP.2?

A: Yes, the Porta Brace Padded Cinema Lens Cup dimensions are 5.5 x 6 x 6" which is a good fit for Zeiss CP.2 lenses.

Q: 3. If I already have the EF version and switch to this will it be an upgrade in image quality? Or is it literally just the same lens in RF?

A: If you have an EF-R adapter to mount the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM, but it lacks the control ring, this RF 50mm f/1.8 STM would have that added function to control settings such as the aperture.

Q: 4. Can I still use the lens cap with a 43mm filter attached to this lens?

A: That would depend on the filter. If the filter you own or plan to use has 43mm front filter threads on the front of the filter ring, then yes, the Canon E-43 43mm Lens Cap included with the purchase of the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens would fit on the front of your filter.

Q: 5. Does this lens constantly hunt focus? or do I have a bad copy? I knew it would be noisy, but it when it rarely locks focus the sound of it constantly trying is bothersome.

A: From trying our display model here in the superstore, we seem to be experiencing the similar issues. But to confirm the severity of yours, I'd recommend reach out over our new live video-chat feature and let's try to troubleshoot this issue together.

Q: 6. What are the interior dimensions of this lens cup?

A: The interior dimensions are 5"x4" and exterior are 5.25"x4.25".

Q: 7. A Brown ID Tab is shown on Top. When you buy a 2-pack of these, are both the ID Tabs on top the same color, or one Brown and one Red for example?

A: Yes, according to Porta Brace each Lens Cup will have a different colored ID Tag.

Q: 8. What are the interior dimensions of this lens cup?

A: The interior dimensions are 2.5" x 3.25" (manufacturer had erroneously posted interior dimensions under exterior denomination) the exterior are 2.7"x3.5"

Q: 9. Will it fit Canon EF 200-400 f4?

A: Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x Lens (Canon EF) is 14,41" long. The PortaBrace Padded Lens Cup for Pro Lenses (Extra-Large) is only 12". Consider instead the Lightware Z400 Long lens 400 Case BH #LIZ400 • MFR #Z400

Q: 10. What is the closest focusing distance for this lens?

A: Its minimum focusing distance is 11.8"/30cm.

Switching to this from the RF 24-240 felt like I was only holding the camera body, very light weight. Also very capable indoors with only artificial lighting, which I sorely needed-- no fun having to use a flash all the time. Easy choice for an excellent prime.

I compared this to a Nikon AIS 50mm (w/ adapter) on my Eos R - not much difference. Focus is really quick. Colors are great out of this. Love it! And really affordable.

After purchasing the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens from B&H Photo on March 29th, 2024, I’ve had ample time to put this nifty fifty to the test, and it's safe to say it exceeds expectations. This lens is a fantastic addition to any photographer's kit, especially for those shooting with a Canon RF mount.

First off, the sharpness of this lens is phenomenal. Whether I’m capturing portraits or detailed landscapes, the clarity and detail are impressive. The f/1.8 aperture not only allows for great low light performance but also offers that gorgeous, creamy bokeh that every photographer craves. It’s perfect for creating that professional-looking depth of field without breaking the bank.

The build quality, while lightweight and compact, feels sturdy in hand—a big plus for someone like me who is constantly on the move. Its small size makes it an easy carry, ensuring I never leave it behind.

Autofocus performance with the STM motor is snappy and silent, a feature I truly appreciate when capturing video. The focus ring is responsive and smooth, making manual focusing a breeze.

B&H Photo made the purchasing process smooth and hassle-free. Their customer service was informative and friendly, providing great advice when needed. The lens arrived quickly and in perfect condition, packed securely to ensure safe transit.

The Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM is an extremely versatile, lightweight lens that punches well above its weight class, offering exceptional value for money. It’s a must-have for both budding and seasoned photographers. Thanks to B&H for the seamless experience!

I had a 50mm EF lens years ago and it did not focus accurately so I did not use it. This lens , however, focuses fast, accurately and silent. It is sharp and produces great color and contrast. I really like it. It has renewed my desire for fast prime lenses. It is soooo much lighter than my 24-70 f2.8 L . This lens on the R8 is a great lightweight package.

I have the adapter for the R5 so I could use my other canon lenses. For my first RF lens I decided on the Canon RF 50mm. I am not disappointed. lens is light, fast and a joy. Very sharp when I crop my images to interest area. Was happily surprised. I do a lot of photos around my garden and this is a nice addition. Can't wait to try with my astrophotography when the clouds leave. It doesn't disappoint
