The 6-stop, 95mm Ice CO Nano Multicoated ND Filter is a neutral density filter with a 64x filter factor that provides a 6-stop exposure reduction. Its 1.8 optical density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed without overexposing your image. By slowing your exposure time, you can create motion blur for special effects or to convey a sense of movement. Opening your iris allows you to create shallow depth of field, which can help isolate your subject. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes eight layers of anti-reflection coating. The nano-resistance coating offers improved beading effect when in contact with water, for effective use in harsh environments, and allows for more efficient cleaning. This neutral density filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. It features an aluminum alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. anybody using this filter? Have you had any problems?

A: I've had it for a few months. Bought it because the Bower 95mm was just awful.... you get what you pay for! Personally, I've noticed no X pattern on this filter at all -- even at its highest level of filtering. I've not noticed too much of a color shift either....

Q: 2. This filter has a 72mm filter thread. So, is it same to assume that a lens cap will also be 72mm?

A: That's correct, Lenscap is 72mm. This filter lives on my camera almost permanently. Worth every cent!

Q: 3. Do you think I would get vignetting if I used this on a 10mm with a 77mm filter thread and a step up ring?

A: I suspect you would get 'some' vignetting, but don't have actual experience with this combination.

Q: 4. How can we clean the inside of the filter?

A: I must admit in a career of photography never needing to clean the inside of a rotating Polarizer. If for some really reason you actually had to clean the inside, that would be a task for a professional camera technician. No user serviceable parts are here.

Q: 5. Hello. I purchased this filter but I am having difficulty working out the stop values for each dotted marker increment on the outside ring? I assume the first dot is 1 stop and last dot is 5 stops. If you divide the rest by 1/3 stop or 1/2 stop, then it does not work out mathematically. Any tips or manuals for this lens?

A: Unfortunately, this is typical of most variable neutral density filters across the spectrum. The markings between the minimum and maximum do not accurately indicate a precise number of stops, and even brands than mark them with ND factors miss the mark significantly; some brands are off by 1/3~2/3 stops with engraved filter factors. While I am not familiar with the physics and/or engineering reason for this, a commonly accepted technique is to adjust the camera settings first and then dial in the VND filter factor. This might be hard/impractical with longer shutter speeds though, so preemptive testing might be necessary.

Q: 6. I have a Batis 25mm. will this filter fit the lens, and also, will the original lens cap fit on top of this filter?

A: Yes, this will fit the 67mm filter threads of the ZEISS Batis 25mm f/2 Lens for Sony E. However, since this filter is made wider so as to avoid vignetting, you will need a 72mm lens cap. Here is a quality one to match your lens. B+W 72mm Pro Snap-On Lens Cap MFR #65-1065134 • BH #BWLC72

Q: 7. Does this vignette on the tokina 11-20mm 2.8?

A: No there will be no vignetting when using the B+W 82mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter. XS-PRO filters are designed with a thinner ring so they can avoid vignetting on a wide angle lens.

Q: 8. Does this filter have hard stops?

A: So as not to confuse with my prior answer, there are no intermediate stops but yes there are stops at each end.

Q: 9. Anyone having issues using lens caps and this filter? Can you share what lens cap you're using on top of this?

A: I use the lens cap that came with the filter, and it works quiet well - it's a slip-on, but seems to stay without any issues.

Q: 10. with an ultra-wide angle lens (i.e. Canon 16-35mm F4L with a full frame camera), do you get the dreaded X show up and if so at what density does it show up?

A: The X you can sometimes pick up in the image with a variable ND filter is caused most of the time by variable ND filters that go over 7-8 stops and lower quality ones. The B+W filter is fine. The one thing you might pick up is when set to the widest setting on that lens, 16mm you might pick up some vignette. And that is going to happen with that lens with most filters because of how wide it can go. The filter is designed with a thinner frame so it should be somewhat minimal.
