Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. How many hours will this hold?
A: How much data any media holds depends on several factors such as codec, bit rate, resolution, GB capacity, etc, etc. I can an give an example. On this media, recording 4K DCI to Apple ProRes and with 2ch/48.0 khz/24 bit audio, this 256GB SSD will record 54.7 minutes of video.
Q: 2. How much time will one of these record of RAW 4K footage?
A: You may wonder why recording times often are not listed for media. Or battery life time for that matter. The reason is there are so many variables that listing times for either becomes an exercise in futility. In regards to your question, recording times for media depends on the media size and video format basically of course. However, the actual size of the image in pixels, the frame rate and the bit rate of the codec also come into play. To figure this out, you can get AJA's very own DataClac App for your smartphone. As an example, that app says 4K-Full, 29.97 in ProRes will record 1 hours 7 minutes of video and sound on the AJA Pak512 512GB SSD.
Q: 3. Can I reformat the drive in the Ki Pro Ultra to a different file system, or do I have to keep exFAT as exFAT?
A: Yes...you can choose between exFAT (best for compatibility) or HFS+ (the Mac files system)
Q: 4. It can use a Thunderbolt 4 port and get its optimal speed, even though it is USC 3.2?
A: If the Xcellon M2NS USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 M.2 SSD Enclosure is connected to a Thunderbolt 4 port, it will still be using the USB 3.2 gen 2 protocol. Speeds will not increase beyond what they would be with a USB 3.2 gen 2 port.
Q: 5. is this drive the same one used in the AJA Ki Pro Recorder or do they use different drives?
A: They may be different ..with other models
Q: 6. will this work with usb A to C cord 2.0?
A: Yes, you can use a USB-A to USB-C 2.0 cable to connect the Xcellon M2NS USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 M.2 SSD Enclosure to your computer, but it will greatly reduce the speed of the drive inside. It is best to use a more high speed cable, such as the Oyen Digital USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C Male to Type-A Male Braided Cable (16")(BH #OYUCA04BN • MFR #UCA-04-BN). See: https://bit.ly/47xzx3y
Q: 7. What power supply does this require
A: The Xcellon Pro Hub 10 10-in-1 USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 Hub does not require a power supply; it can be bus powered over USB. It also supports up to 100W of power delivery when connected to a USB-C power adapter. For a power supply that supports 100W, you can use the Xcellon 100W USB-C PD Universal AC Adapter, B&H # XCPD100.
Q: 8. what is highest capacity 3.5" drives you can use?
A: According to OWC, the OWC 2-Bay 2.5" / 3.5" U.2 & SATA USB 3.2 Gen 2 Drive Dock can support both current and future HDD capacities. It does not have a specific capacity limitation, allowing you to use the latest and largest HDDs available on the market.
Q: 9. Description says max capacity is 8Tb, but some reviewer said max capacity to be 4Tb. Which is correct?
A: The Xcellon M2NS USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 M.2 SSD Enclosure, (B&H # XCM2NS), supports NVMe & SATA M.2 SSDs drives up to 8TB.
Q: 10. Does the Xcellon Pro Hub 10 work with a Type C YubiKey Security Key?
A: We are not able to test the Xcellon Pro Hub 10 10-in-1 USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 Hub with all possible USB accessories, but in general terms it will work with any USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 accessories which are compatible with the host system. The only notable exceptions would be if you intend to connect several power-hungry devices such as external hard drives, which could potentially draw too much power for a single USB port to provide.
