The Tiffen 77mm 85 Color Conversion Filter helps to decrease the color temperature from 5500 to 3400K, allowing the use of tungsten-balanced film in daylight conditions. The warming effect of this filter requires a 0.6-stop increase in exposure for normal results.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How many stops will this filter give me compared to the 58CP filter?"

A: This Tiffen 72mm Variable Neutral Density Filter can reduce exposure from between 2 stops to 8 stops; the Tiffen 58mm Circular Polarizing Filter will reduce exposure about 1.2 stops.

Q: 2. I have a Canon MIII. Will this Tiffen 77VND work with a 50mm lens?

A: Whether this filter will fit your lens depends on the exact 50mm lens. The front diameter of the lens is generally printed on the front or stamped behind the lens cap.

Q: 3. Considering this filter for the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art lens, so vignetting should not be an issue for a telephoto. However, lack of front threads or provision for a lens hood is an issue. Is there a solution?

A: Hey Danny I haven't found a solution for a good, but never look hard after a solution either. I use it with my L series zooms and I can't never use lens hood with it. It is one of the smallest nd out there but still not small enough. Hope it helps

Q: 4. Whats the outer diameter for the 82mm VND?

A: Tiffen 82mm Variable Neutral Density Filter has a 98mm outer diameter.

Q: 5. Could you tell me this filter thickness? I Use on wide-angle lensthanks !

A: The glass is 2mm thick

Q: 6. Would this filter eliminate glaring while photographing waterfalls?

A: The Tiffen Variable Neutral Density filter controls how much light enters your camera lens. By controlling the light you have greater control over shutter speed to do long exposures. You can shoot waterfalls with the camera on a tripod and blur the water giving the water a look of movement while everything else stays still. You can also control aperture to shoot wide open for shallow depth of field in bright situations where your camera would normally overexpose when shooting wide open. This filter will not eliminate reflected light, for this you need a Circular Polarizing filter.

Q: 7. will this work with my factory standard zoom (for 5Dmark3) Canon 24-70mm lens?

A: If you own the original Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L EF USM lens, or the new Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM Lens, B&H # CA24704LIS, both use 77mm filters and would work with the Tiffen 77mm Variable Neutral Density Filter listed above. However, the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens, B&H # CA247028LII, uses 82mm filters, and would not be compatible with the above filter.

Q: 8. How many stops is this filter?

A: The filter factor for this filter is 8x, which translates to 3 stops.

Q: 9. Is there a way to make them fit in the Rokinon lenses? I heard Rokinon lenses doesn't have a way to add filters.

A: All Tiffen screw in filters require filter threads. We make the VND filter in 52, 58, 62, 67, 72, 77 and 82 mm sizes. We recommend you contact Rokinon for specifications regarding their lenses

Q: 10. Hello, I did read a review telling that when using a IR/UV Cut filter on Wide Angle Lenses the image can be compromised: the interference varies with the angle of incidence of the light on the glass. This renders this filter unusable with wide-angle and even normal focal lenses, resulting in a greenish gradient from the center to the corners. - this was posted for the 72mm version of an IR/UV Cut filter of another brand.- Q: Did someone else has this problem on Full Frame & APS-C DSLRs with Wide Angle Lenses like 16mm with THIS Tiffen W77IR filter?Thank you very much!

A: Hi HD Cam T,I purchased this filter to correct a known IR contamination defect in the Sony EX-1 camcorder. Black suits turn different shades of brown depending on their material without the filter. An orchestra of black suits will look like everyone is wearing a different shade of off black tuxes. But some will be true black. I only use the filter when I need it. I manually white balance the camera when using the IR filter. The image has a green cast if you do not white balance. You also loose about a half an f stop with the filter. Not a perfect fix for my camera but it is the only one I have found.

A little pricey but well worth it when you see the pizzazz it puts into your pictures. Looks great when it hits the points of light on the water during a sunny day at the ocean. Also puts a subtle glamour on the shine at a car shoe. I love it when it sparkles.

I use this filter because it seems to reduce the harsh sunlight we have here in the Caribbean. I use it on a tropical island where there is a lot of vegetation and it seems to really bring out the greens and make them more desirable to look at.

The Sony EX1 has a nasty IR spike when filming under hot lights & direct sunlight that causes black materials to look brownish and skin tones red. This filter fixes that! Great product.

Perfect to use with HD CMOS video cameras like EX1, EX3... Sometime you have unwanted reddish blacks because of infrared contamination in the picture. That's not a camera default : that let you the maximum red light width entering in the CMOS, but that can create unwanted effects, specially in blacks. Using this T1 filter will remove this bad effect and produce (after good white balancing, preset or mesured) a perfect picture. And not too much flare effects with incident light. A must have for your gear...

This is a one-of-a-kind filter that stops the Infra red leak on XDCam cameras like the EX-1 and EX-3. It WORKS! We shoot a lot of theatrical stage lit features, and before we added the T1 filter, the IR leaks turned black costumes into a deep maroon, magenta color. Not anymore. Blacks are black with this filter on.

I am a long-time PMW-EX1 user. I purchased it in January of 2009 and up until this point never really dug into WHY certain colors looked different compared to other cameras. I just assumed that it was the nature of the camera. However, more recently after upgrading my multi-cam setup to Sony CX900s, the black-turned-brown problem became blatantly obvious. For the longest time I just lived with it until I couldn't stand it anymore. Research led me here: the Tiffen T1 IR cut filter. I popped this baby on, re-white balanced, and bam! Blacks became black, no more brown! NOW the biggest problem I face is more-closely color matching the EX1 to my CX900s, but let me tell you it is now a LOT better than it was before. I'm over 8 years late to the party, but hey, I can get more use out of my EX1! My clients have been very forgiving and didn't even notice the brown blacks before, but it was driving me nuts. Problem solved. If you own an XDCAM EX, just get this. I've heard the replacement model of the EX1 still has the same IR leak problem, so this filter is still relevant to the XDCAM line today. Some things you can't fix in post, and I've never believed in that philosophy anyway. The higher-quality your first-generation signal, the better your output will be; this filter gives you that.

I have a Sony a99 and noticed muddy magenta in blacks,so, I started to investigate this problem. After several goggles, I noticed that a DP used a rosco 4X4 IR cut filter to address this problem. The Tiffen IR cut filter was the right size for my Sony Alfa Lenses. It WORKS!!! Black are blacks and images are sharper! I've gone from disappointment to relief.

This IR filter is for eliminating unwanted hues and tones from a Sony EX3 camera. Reds tend to be muted to brown without this great filter.
