Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the sound quality good with DSLRs ? I'd like to use this with running and gunning on-the-go with a shotgun mic and not have to sync audio in post. Thanks, Ef

A: The audio recorded by virtually any DSLR's built-in microphone is mediocre at best. The iRig Pre Microphone Interface is not designed to connect to cameras as it is intended for use with iOS devices like the iPhone or iPad. Consider a Shure VP83 LensHopper Shotgun Microphone B&H # SHVP83 which requires no adapters. It is a plug and play mic. An XLR shotgun powered by a battery will offer even better performance but will require a cable and an adapter. Shure VP83 LensHopper Shotgun Microphone B&H # RONTG2K2 (B&H Kit)

Q: 2. if I want to livestream with my iphone 7plus on facebook, using external mic and irig pro I can control sound for livestream and it would work seamlessly?

A: You can control the input gain on the microphone which would affect the volume in Facebook Live but it's not a pure volume control. But it should still work fine, I know many people using Pro I/O for Facebook streaming with no issues.

Q: 3. Will this work to send audio to an iPhone 12 via an XLR output from a Shure wireless mic?

A: Yes, the IK Multimedia iRig Pre HD Audio Interface with Mic Pre is a great solution for sending audio into an iPhone from a Mic level XLR audio source such as a Shure wireless receiver.

Q: 4. If I were to use this device with an android phone, would I be able to monitor the audio quality using headphones while recording?

A: Only if the app you're using to record supports monitoring while recording. The output is not direct monitoring, it's acting as the headphone output of your phone.

Q: 5. What does the color on the side indicate. volume?

A: This is a list of the colors and their indications for the IK Multimedia iRig Pre HD.Status / Audio level LEDThe lower LED will show the audio signal level and the status of the unit as follow:LED Off: iRig Pre HD is not connected to any power sourceLED Bright Blue: iRig Pre HD is connected and a signal is present at the input of the channelLED Green: The input signal of the corresponding channel is lowLED Orange: The input signal of the corresponding channel is OKLED Red: The input signal of the corresponding channel is too highPhantom power LEDThe upper LED show the phantom power status:Off: Phantom power is offSteady Red: Phantom power is onLow Battery: When the battery level approach to be low, all the (turned on) LEDs will fast blink every 2 sec. Q: 6. It seems, This includes iPhone apps. Is there any app for Android that can be downloaded? Thanks!

A: This product does not support Android.

Q: 7. Can you monitor while recording?

A: You can monitor from this device while recording. If using an app with a monitor return, then the audio will be processed and returned out the headphone output. If using an app without an audio return, then the Direct Monitoring feature of this device will allow you to hear the audio input, before being sent to the app.

Q: 8. Will this device work when paired with an Apple lightning converter for use on an iPhone 7?

A: Yes, the iRig PRE will work with the iPhone 7 using the included Apple 3.5mm (TRRS) to Lightning adapter.

Q: 9. Hello BH To use with iPhone/videorecording connect to microphone/XLR - what is best choice: IK Multimedia iRig Pro or IK Multimedia iRig Pre HD?

A: iRig Pro and Pro I/O only output processed audio, meaning the app you're using to record must support real-time monitoring for you to be able to listen to the audio while recording. iRig Pre HD allows you to switch to direct monitoring so you can hear the audio directly, which is useful with apps that don't support monitoring. Many video and streaming apps don't support this - the built-in recorder, Facebook Live, Instagram, for example. So this is worth considering. In terms of sound quality the two are very similar.

Q: 10. Will this work on my MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015) and recording to garage band?

A: Hey Paul, Yes, the iRig Pro I/O will be Mac compatible and work with software like GarageBand.
