This is a tungsten-balanced Mole-Richardson JuniorLED 200W 8" Fresnel with DMX . Fresnels have been a staple in Hollywood since 1936 and little has changed except the use of better materials with more precise construction techniques. While there wasn't a problem with the Fresnel's quality of light, heat and electrical draw was another story.

Apart from the black powder-coated finish, the JuniorLED head looks and performs the same as a legacy light allowing you to swap a standard light for a JuniorLED or mix them. In fact, there's a retro-fit kit available to convert your old style light to an LED.

On-board and DMX dimming means you'll probably be restricting your scrimming to half-scrims, saving you a lot of ladder climbing. The JuniorLED has a low maximum draw as compared to the legacy lamp effecting up to an 80% reduction in energy consumption. This means that you can run double the amount of LEDs as legacy lights without raising the temperature. Cooler operation also means less air-conditioning running costs in the studio. Let's also consider the cost and downtime of re-lamping. LEDs last about 50,000 hours and are virtually maintenance-free. The 90-250 VAC JuniorLED has a 8" lens, passive cooling and aluminum alloy and steel construction. It has 13-degree to 54-degree spot to flood variation and a yoke with a 1/1/8" pin for standard Junior stands and accessories. The JuniorLED is supplied with a 25' cable and a NEMA 5-15 Edison (US) plug.

Q: 1. Can I plug this light directly to wall outlet?

A: Yes

Q: 2. How does this light not flood to spot? Every mole richardson fresnel they have ever made flooded to spot. Product fail.

A: It's not a fresnel, it's the equivalent of a par can. It's well built, color tuneable, dimmable and 900 dollars. Its the equivalent of a 650 watt tungsten fixture. Considering it's back ordered, I would have to say that this product is actually a big hit.

Q: 3. 5/8 receiver? You sure about that? The beast weighs 24 pounds.

A: The specifications on that are correct and the light has a Junior pin (29mm, 1 1/8). It is not a baby pin (5/8 )

Q: 4. Is there a version that can be controlled via DMX?

A: The Relemp is a drop in bulb replacement. You would need a external dimmer pack if you wanted DMX control.

Q: 5. Is there a compatible Snoot for this light? Thanks!

A: Yes, this can be used on the Mole-Richardson 200W Varimole LED, Mole-Richardson Mole-Snoot for Midget - 5-in-1 B&H # MOSM MFR # 23532.

Q: 6. How long is the upper part, that is, the part above the wide section that has the screw lock? I'm looking for something that will allow my Matthews Hollywood arm to sit on my Manfrotto light stands more securely (i.e., sit on a stud long enough to use the whole length of the mounting hole in the Hollywood arm. B&H # MAHWHA40B. The other studs I've tried won't allow the hole in the arm to go fully down onto the mounting stud on the light stand.

Q: 7. Does the light come with a bulb or do I have to buy that separately?

A: Lamps are not included.

Q: 8. Do the bulbs blow as easily as lowel pro light bulbs?

A: Do you touch the bulb when placing it in the fixture? One of the first things I was taught on my first job was never touch a bulb when inserting it into the fixture. The oils on your hand gets on the bulb and when turned on, the oils heat up and the bulb will blow. I've had both Arri's(currently this 150 and a 300) and Lowel lights over the years and never had bulbs go out prematurely in either brand. While I believe Arri makes a more durable light than Lowel, you shouldn't have bulb issues if A) Buy a quality bulb, B) Never touch the bulb and C) Handle your lights with more care than an ABC7 news crew.

Q: 9. What type of connection does the ballast have for power? Stand Edison plug?

A: The ballast for this fresnel does have a standard Edison plug on the end.
