The 86mm Soft Graduated ND8 Lens Filter Plus+ from Urth provides a fixed 3 f-stop light reduction from half your image for balanced exposure and better dynamic range in soft graduated light conditions. By blocking 3 f-stops of light from half the image, you can balance your exposure when the foreground is darker than the background - such as shooting landscapes in the mountains. The soft graduation creates a natural blending of light. The Plus+ range features 20-layers of nano-coating providing easier cleaning and better protection against water, oil, and scratches. These layers also provide a higher maximum light transmission and a more consistent transmission curve for truer light reduction.

the expected effect of this filter was exceeded; the actual photographic results were outstanding in environments such as coastal scenes, misty mountain days; highly recommended for use with a lens that has exceptional capabilities- I use it with the Zeiss 15mm; only downside is that it is expensive (to be expected) and large ( necessary); 5

I purchased this UV filter to go along with a new Zeiss lens. The first time I traveled with the new lens, I removed the filter to clean it due to inclement weather. Although I used a professional lens-cleaning cloth, there may have been particles in the air as the filter seemed to get scratched when I cleaned it. I took the filter to a pro camera store and they confirmed that it was scratched. However, when I returned home and unpacked the filter, it was scratch-free. This sounds improbable, but perhaps this occurred because of the Zeiss T* coating, the same that they use on their lenses. 5

I use Zeiss UV filters on all of my lenses. It goes on as soon as the lens comes out of the box and rarely comes off, only to use other filters. I feel much better about cleaning this all the time than the element of the lens itself (especially on a $1300 Batis). I also like the actual protection that it offers the front element as opposed to the protection of the lens hood that some people claim. No, there is no loss of quality or additional glare by anyone's standards. I do not agree with the camp that says that you should not use UV filters for protection because of a loss in quality. I believe that this might be true of cheap filters, but certainly not these. 5

I recently purchased the Zeiss 100mm Planar T* Macro lens and the 67mm T* UV filter. Both items together make an excellent macro lens package. I shoot with a Nixon D800e. The combination of that body with that glass make for a first class system for portrait, landscape, and macro photography. 5
