Sony Mead-sd02 Sdhc/sdxc Card Adapter For Xdcam Ex Camcorders / Equipment
  • Product Code: ga9344
  • Availability: In Stock

$419.85 $650.77

The MEAD-SD02 SDHC/SDXC Card Adapter from Sony enables the use of a Class 10 SDHC/SDXC memory card, including UHS-1, in the ExpressCard slot of XDCAM EX equipment, such as camcorders and recording decks. It will also work with other ExpressCard compatible hardware, such as Windows and Mac computers and storage drives.

Although the SxS PRO and SxS-1 cards intended for the memory slots in XDCAM models offer higher performance, SDHC and SDXC cards are more readily available in a pinch when additional memory is required. This adapter, which is the same size as an SxS memory card, provides a viable solution in this type of situation.

Please note that use of the slow motion recording function is not recommended, due to the speed limitations of SD cards. XDCAM EX hardware may require a firmware upgrade in order to support the use of the adapter.

Q: 4. Is this card adapter Compatible to the Sandisk Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-ll Card 128gb V90?

A: Yes, the Sony SD Card Adaptor should work with SDXC UHS-II cards when used with models that support the SDXC format (as opposed to SD and SDHC). However, according to Sony, there might be compatibility issues on the XDCAM EX models you're using as compatibility with SDXC is not guaranteed.

Q: 5. will this card work with pmw 300?

A: Yes, SORT OF. The PMW 300 records in FAT mode and UDF mode, but if you're using an adapter (regardless of how fast an SD card you put in it), the camera will only record in FAT mode.In FAT mode, the camera will only record up to 35mbps, so to get modern broadcast quality you have to be recording on the SxS cards that are supposed to go in the camera. This is in the user manual but was not made clear anywhere on the product pages. Most people won't notice a difference between the 35mbps and the 50, but if you're shooting a lot of action or movement, the extra 15mbps helps a lot.

We have a few SxS cards from our previous cameras but with our new x320s shooting at a high bit rate, we needed more storage space and more cards. We have some 3rd party SD card converters from e-films but they would not allow us to record at greater than 35mbps. There was a lot of disagreement in reviews on various sites about whether this card would support higher bit rates. The Sony instruction manual even implies it will not. I decided to get one to test, and it does work with all codecs on the X320 including the 100mbps XAVC codec. My testing was with with SanDisk Extreme PRO 64GB SDXC cards. To get the higher bit-rate codecs it needs to be formatted exFAT
