The RF Venue COMBINE8 enables you to actively combine signals from up to eight in-ear monitor (IEM) wireless transmitters into a single transmitting antenna. IEM transmitter combination for multi-channel systems greatly lowers the probability of intermodulation artifacts arising from multiple adjacent transmitters interfering with one another—thus improving audio quality.

The COMBINE8 can be used with any brand of IEM transmitter set to transmit at 50mW or less as well as any type of directional antenna. The rear panel houses eight BNC transmitter-input connectors and one BNC antenna output.

An external DC power supply is included to provide DC power for up to eight IEM transmitters, removing the need for wall warts and reducing clutter.

For your convenience, RF Venue offers the 8-Channel In-Ear Monitor Upgrade Pack, which bundles the COMBINE8 with a CP Beam helical antenna, and a 25" low-loss RG8X coaxial cable.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the bundle include the 12v power adapter cables?

A: Yes. The 4 power cables are attached to the combiner unit and plug directly to and power up the individual channel units.

Q: 2. Does this Distro4 model feature the cascade ports to daisy chain multiple units together?

A: Yes. You can link up to four units.

Q: 3. What are the dimensions?

A: This is a single space rack unit that measures 480 x 45 x 250 mm.

Q: 4. Can it provide power for any passive antenna?

A: The Electro-Voice RFAMP Active RF Antenna Booster (470 to 960 MHz) is designed for use mainly with the Electro Voice RE3 UHF wireless microphone system. However, it could be used with other wireless systems' antennas.

Q: 5. Can you use one element at a time in non-diversity mode? E.G. I want to use only the LDPA antenna on occassion

A: Yes, you can use one element at a time because there are separate A and B outputs on the RF Venue Diversity Fin Antenna with Stand Mount for Wireless Microphone Systems (Black, 470 to 698 MHz).

Q: 6. Does this unit come with the RG8 cables and power breakout connector like the bundle with the DFin?

A: The RF Venue Distro9 HDR Multi-Zone Antenna Distribution System does not ship with the RG8 cables and the power breakout connector; the only cable included with the unit is the standard IEC power cord.

Q: 7. How can two RF Venue systems be combined to accommodate 10 wireless in ear monitor?

A: Each RF Venue 8-Channel In-Ear Monitor Upgrade Pack with COMBINE8, CP Beam Antenna, and BNC Cables can accommodate up to 8 IEM transmitters. The COMBINE8 8-Channel IEM Transmitter Combiner brings together up to 8 IEM transmitter signals for connection to a single rear-panel mounted antenna connector for use with the single CP Beam Antenna. Adding a second Upgrade Pack with a second COMBINE8 and CP Beam Antenna will allow you to use an additional 8 IEM transmitters and connect them to a second CP Beam Antenna. So if you have 10 wireless in-ear monitor transmitters, you can configure them as desired with the two COMBINE8 and CP Beam Antennas, as long as you do need exceed 8 transmitters per antenna combiner and antenna.

Q: 8. Why does it not have a gain switch to account for the signal loss within the BNC cable?

A: The RF Venue Diversity Fin Antenna with Stand Mount for Wireless Microphone Systems (Black, 470 to 698 MHz) does not include a gain feature as it is a passive antenna. Active antennas can pose risks such as overloading the RF front end of a receiver system, and you can easily overload by using an active antenna’s gain control at a setting that is disproportionally strong for the cable run’s length. A good practice would be to implement passive antennas, and then only add in-line amplifiers to make up for transmission line loss if doing very long cable runs of more than 100 feet.

Q: 9. Can this item be mounted on a standard C-stand stud?

A: Yes, the RF Venue Diversity Fin Antenna with Stand Mount can be mounted on a standard C-stand stud. You will need a 5/8" receiver adapter with a male thread on the other end. The antenna features a mounting block with 1/4"-20, 3/8"-16, and 5/8"-27 threads to secure it on the stand, so you have plenty of flexibility for the adapter. The Manfrotto 014-38 Rapid Adapter - 5/8" Stud to 3/8" Thread (B&H # MA01438) is one example of an adapter that can be used.

Q: 10. Do you need to buy 2 of these or will 1 work? How many wireless receivers will 1 antenna supply RF for?

A: There are two antennae (omni and directional) in the RF Venue Diversity Fin Antenna with Stand Mount for Wireless Microphone Systems, with two BNC output connections, so a single unit will serve the function of two antennae. The number of receivers relies on implementing an appropriate antenna distribution system and is usually between 1-8 receivers.

I use these primarily for weddings, engagement sessions, events, and just about any other time I'm pushing my Canon 600 series speedlites hard. Operation is extremely simple, you put batteries in, plug it in, and the unit automatically turns on and off with your flash. I really feel the price is outrageous for a simple AA battery pack with some temperature sensing features. That said, I'm sticking Canon OEM for this type of purchase because I'm not going to risk burning up a $570 600EXII-RT speedlite with a third party unit. The included case is of limited utility, it works fine if you're mounting on a belt loop, but really won't help with mounting any other way. Fortunately, they include a nice 1/4-20 screw through the middle of the unit. I use this to mount to a Matthews Super Mafer Clamp to affix the battery pack to light stands, tripod legs, etc. I find this configuration to be ideal and highly recommend it if you are using this for off-camera speedlite work.
