The 10-stop, 82mm Edge ND Filter from IRIX is an essential tool for landscape and long-exposure photography. This filter has an optical density of 3.0 and reduces incoming light by 10 stops, allowing more controlled motion blur and depth of field manipulation. This unusually dense 10-stop filter makes it possible to achieve exposure times of several minutes, even in bright sunlight.

This optical glass filter features waterproof and oil-repellent nanocoating to prevent stains and fingerprints, allowing it to be used in extreme weather conditions. The low-profile frames and knurled edges provide excellent grip and functionality with a reduced potential for vignetting with wide-angle lenses.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I stack this with a PolarPro 4 stop ND filter?

A: The PolarPro Peter McKinnon Chroma Variable ND & Polarizer Filter 82mm does not have front filter threads. However, the PolarPro QuartzLine Solid ND Filter (82mm, 4-Stop) has 82mm front threads. Therefore you can stack the variable filter on top of the solid ND.

Q: 2. Does this fit on BH #NITCVND1567 without a swift adapter ?

A: Ther are no mounting threads on NiSi 67mm ND16 Filter for True Color VND and Swift System. You can not use the filter without NiSi 67mm Adapter Ring for Swift System Filters.

Q: 3. What size would you recommend for the Nikkor Z 14-30mm f4 lens to use 2 filters stacked without vignetting?

A: The NiSi Swift FS ND Filter Kit (82mm) is not recommended when stacking filters on the Nikon NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S Lens. Nisi recommends this filter holder, BH #NIS6FHKSFT (https://bhpho.to/3O3Pt3g).

Q: 4. How does this one differ from the Signature II edition? Using a RED V-Raptor, Canon RF: 24-70, 15-35,100-500 for motorsports.

A: The PolarPro 82mm Peter McKinnon Mist Edition II VND ND64 to ND512 Filter (6 to 9-Stop) would have both diffusion and a variable ND filter built into one frame while the Signature II Edition would be just a variable ND.

Q: 5. Will you need to remove this filter during the total eclipse to see & photograph anything?

A: Yes, solar filters are designed for shooting the entire sun and partial eclipse phases. You will need to remove the filter during totality to photograph the corona. If you also want to photograph Bailey's beads and the diamond ring effect, you will want to remove the filter about 20-30 seconds before totality begins and replace it about 20-30 seconds after totality ends. This will not damage your camera equipment. Another answer implied that it is safe to view the eclipse through your camera's optical viewfinder with this filter in place, but that is NOT the case. This filter is NOT certified for visual observation. Place a viewfinder cover or a piece of tape over your optical viewfinder as a precaution, and only use live view to focus and compose your frames.

Q: 6. Can you have half stop e.g. 2.5, 3.5 etc without incurring problem with this VND?

A: You can indeed! with the way the glass is designed on these filters, you don't run into any of the X cross pattern problems.

Q: 7. Can you stack 2 of these VND/PL FILTERS for additional ND values?

A: Two of the PolarPro Peter McKinnon Chroma VND/PL Filter for Helix Maglock (6 to 9-Stop) should not be stacked as it creates aberrations.

Q: 8. Does this filter come with the magnetic ring that goes on the camera, and then the filter snaps on to that?

A: The Freewell Mist Edition Threaded Bright Day Variable ND Filter (2-5 Stops, 82mm) is not a magnetic filter.

Q: 9. Does anyone have a fix for the PolarPro 95mm VNDs not fitting properly on the Canon 28-70 2.0?

A: Yes, you can use this PolarPro 95mm Course Thread Adapter on the Canon 28-70 2.0 and it will accept PolarPro 95mm filters. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1784168-REG/

Q: 10. What is the difference between Helix and Helix Maglock?

A: There is no difference between PolarPro Helix and PolarPro Helix Maglock. They are the same. They just added the name MagLock so customers know you can lock the filter after it is attached.
