The 15-stop, 95mm Edge ND Filter from IRIX is an essential tool for landscape and long-exposure photography. This filter has an optical density of 4.5 and reduces incoming light by 15 stops, allowing more controlled motion blur and depth of field manipulation. This unusually dense 15-stop filter makes it possible to achieve exposure times of several minutes, even in bright sunlight.

This optical glass filter features waterproof and oil-repellent nanocoating to prevent stains and fingerprints, allowing it to be used in extreme weather conditions. The low-profile frames and knurled edges provide excellent grip and functionality with a reduced potential for vignetting with wide-angle lenses.

Q: 1. Is it possible to use this matt box? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1613745-REG/tilta_mb_t12_m95_4x5_65_carbon_fiber_matte.html/qa

A: No, The Tilta MB-T12 mattebox would not work with Titlta Mirage filters. The following matte box model supports the Mirage matte box filters. https://bhpho.to/3tbs4W8

Q: 2. Is there any advantage to using PL over EF mount for use on a Canon C500 mkii?

A: PL tends to be a stronger locking connection over EF. Also, the Canon C500 camera has a PL mount version that may require you to work with PL lenses.

Q: 3. I have a Sony A7S with Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS Lens and shoot video. I like the flexibility of the variable ND filter especially as I often don't have time to change filters. Is this the best for exteriors? Thanks Andrew

A: It's that or a mattbox with ND, especially for shooting Log2 or Log3 at 1600 or 3200iso.

Q: 4. Hey guys/gals! I have the 82mm on a sony GMaster 24-70mm 2.8. I mainly got it for shooting video becasue slog has a minimum iso of 800 so I needed to reduce the light. Everything seemed to be working perfectly for awhile but now I'm starting to notice some vignetting in the corners when I'm at 24mm. It's very slight when shooting video but pretty bad when I'm shooting photos. What's goin on?? Anyone else with a similar experience or did I just not notice it before for some reason?...

A: That is true and why I sent it back. Get the Schneider 82mm True-Match Vari-ND Filter instead. It does not do that due to it's type of construction. Although more money, it is worth it.

Q: 5. Is there a case available for these yet? Looking to clip somewhere between 3 and 7 of them to my belt for gimbal work.

A: No, there is not currently a NiSi branded case for the NiSi Full Spectrum FS ND Drop-In Filter for ATHENA Lenses (7-Stop). However, you could consider using a case like the ARRI Camera Assistant Belt Pouch (Large), BH #ARK20013016, or the WANDRD D1 Fanny Pack (Wasatch Green), BH #WAD1FPWG2, to carry several of the filters.

Q: 6. Is there any reason this can't be stacked on a B&W 77mm ND1.5 to get an effective variable 1.8-3.0? Will that cause any unexpected issues with artifacts or the dreaded X, etc?

A: I believe this should be possible. The only concern would possible corner vigneting when using a wide angle lens. Dan

Q: 7. Are the stops marked in any way with some physical feedback, like a loud click or a hard stop when rotating?

A: The NiSi True Color ND-Vario Drop-In Filter for ATHENA Lenses (1 to 5-Stop) has precise gear control for adjusting, which does not make a sound, but would be clear in the live view while in use.

Q: 8. Does this filter cause that dreaded hourglass darkening when set at 1.5? I have one that if I get past 1/2 the settings, it gets a distorted discoloration. Thanks

A: I have taken a series of exposures at each stop...bright light, but needed long exposure. I didn't see any hourglass effect.

Q: 9. Can this be used with other then Tilta Matt boxes?

A: Currently the Tilta 95mm Variable ND for Mirage is compatible specifically with the Tilta Mirage Matte Box or for direct clamp onto a lens with the Tilta Lightweight Filter Clamp-On Adapter: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1672671-REG/tilta_mb_t16_lfa_lightweight_filter_clamp_on_adapter.html

Q: 10. Can you screw the B+W 77mm Kaesemann XS-Pro Circular Polarizer MRC Nano Filter on the front of this ND Vario?

A: I Can screw my B+W 77mm XS-Por ND-Vario 1-5 MRC nano into a NIKON 77mm Circular Polar 77mm filter and screw that on to my camera lens. The B+W XS-Pro does not have threads on its front side.McKinley
