Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the brand of the leather and deep earpads that are listed with the Sony mdr 7506 ?

A: The sheepskin ear pads are made by Auray.

Q: 2. I saw some Sony headphones advertised as Hi-Res audio capable. Are these headphones capable of that?

A: In a word, no. They are not rated to exceed 20kHz in their upper frequency response. That doesn't mean they can't reproduce these frequencies in some capacity, it means they are not flat (however that is being measured) past 20kHz. In fact, these headphones have a significant drop off past 15Khz, but that does not equate to a more muffled or low-fi type of sound. You'd have to hear the difference between these and something like a Beyerdynamic DT880 to know what I mean. There is no loss of fidelity, but they are not rated up to 25 or 30kHz, which I would consider the minimum to be Hi-Res capable.I'm answering this in case it helps someone else out.

Q: 3. Are these bluetooth?

A: No, the Sony MDR-7506 Headphones connect to an audio source via hardwired 3.5mm connection and do not offer any wireless Bluetooth functionality.

Q: 4. what is the warranty?

A: Limited 90-Day SONY USA Warranty.

Q: 5. Where are these headphones made. China or Taiwan?

A: The pair I bought were made in Thailand. They are very good headphones, though. I use them for monitoring in my small studio when doing vocals. I have done rough mixdown late at night as well, and find the results pretty good the next morning.

Q: 6. Relative to comparables, do these warm up your ears at room temperature or do they breathe?

A: The Sony MDR-7506 Headphones are closed-back headphones, so they will retain some heat naturally. However, with the default earcups they are not as large or tight of a fit as some other popular closed-back models.

Q: 7. Are the earpads leather?

A: The previous ten or so answers were perhaps before a clear leather option was available. There is a button for that option now (which adds to the price, but is probably worth it). The description when choosing the leather cups option reads: '...genuine sheepskin leather earpads for improved comfort in long sessions.'

Q: 8. Is there a MDR-7506 model that comes with an uncoiled cable? I hate all that extra weight on my head.

A: The Sony MDR-7506 Headphones are only available with the attached coiled cable. As an alternative, the Senal SMH-1000-MK2 Professional Field and Studio Monitor Headphones (B&H # SESMH1000MKT) are close in design and have a removeable cable. The SMH-1000-MK2 include both straight and coiled cables, so you have the option of using either style. The Audio-Technica ATH-M40x Closed-Back Monitor Headphones (B&H # AUATHM40X) and Audio-Technica ATH-M30x Closed-Back Monitor Headphones (B&H # AUATHM30X) also have a removeable cable and are both packaged with straight and coiled cables as well.

Q: 9. Is the 1/4 adapter screwable?

A: Yes the 1/4 adapter that ships with the 7506s has threads. The adapter fits snuggly over the 1/8 plug and locks in place by twisting / tightening the threaded section at the end of the assembly. The connection is secure. Sound quality and clarity remain excellent.

Q: 10. What kind of DAC Is in the Sony 7506?

A: The Sony MDR-7506 Headphones do not have any kind of DAC built-in. They are standard analog headphones.

I bought these knowing they're good, ive used them before... and ive also used sony mdr v600, v6, and 7510s. But it was extra nice to get them for such a reasonable price from a reputable vendor... so i know theyre not fake.

Heard and read it's past great history among sound engineers/audio professionals and gotta say they are absolutely correct in choosing the 7506 as their benchmark. These would also be the best choice to pick for your first headphones as it is modestly priced with fantastic and characterful sound qualities. Very compact, comfortable and durable. The treble is accentuated in a very good way that it complements the rest of the other frequencies and makes the sound lively without being sibilant. Bass is tight and lean. Now I know why it's a favorite. Tops on you Sony!

You would think that such a popular item for sound mixers would be way more expensive. But these are the real deal. They sound amazing and the price is so reasonable.
