The UVC-01 supports up to uncompressed 1080p60 resolution and works plug-and-play with Mac and Windows computers.

With your signal sent to the computer, you can use it in various streaming platforms, such as OBS, YouTube Live, and Facebook Live. You can also use your HDMI camera as a webcam using this device, so that you can capture higher-quality webcam video.

The UVC-01 features an ultra-compact and lightweight design and can easily be incorporated into your setup, and it's powered from your computer over the USB connection. Once connected, the UVC-01 automatically shows up as a source in your streaming software, with no drivers or setup required. Like a dedicated webcam, it encodes HDMI to USB video class and USB audio class formats, letting you instantly stream at superspeed USB 3.0 with any service, platform, or application that accepts a webcam as its A/V source.

With the UVC-01, stereo audio is embedded in the HDMI feed along with video. And thanks to the dedicated audio input, it's possible to blend a secondary sound source as well. For example, you can play bumper music from your smartphone, or use Roland's GO-MIXER Pro to combine a mic and instruments for impactful musical performances.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What does it mean when the HDMI input keeps blinking white when I feed from my computer? It does not show anything.

A: The most common reason for blinking input lights are a disconnected or bad cable, as noted in the previous answer. However, you will also get this if your computer is outputting the wrong resolution or frame rate. Unlike many monitors, the V-1HD unit cannot scale resolutions. Instead, it only accepts 720p (if the FORMAT switch on the back is 720p) or 1080i/1080p (interchangeably, if the format switch on the back is 1080i/1080p), which are the common HDTV resolutions. Similarly, your computer output must match the frame rate selected in SETUP (50 or 59.94 Hz, although 60Hz is close enough to 59.94). Unlike most TV sources, computers can output video at a lot of different resolutions and frame rates, and so if you get either of them wrong (check your computer's video settings!) the V-1HD won't be able to use the signal and will give you a blinky button. I use my V-1HDs with computer sources all of the time, but am very careful to keep the computer's video output at 1080p/60 at all times.

Q: 2. Can I do chromakey on this device with a live presenter and content from a laptop overlaid?

A: Yes. We do this routinely.

Q: 3. Can I presume that this switcher would take Line Level in audio from an external mixer like a Shute FP stereo field mixer? To imbed all in an hdmi audio/video signal out?

A: It has a left right line level input on the back of the unit. They are unbalanced RCA inputs. It will imbed into the video out.

Q: 4. Does this unit have a still store? How about fan noise, is there any?

A: The V-1HD does not have a still store feature. There is a fan but reportedly it is so quiet, mics do not hear it.

Q: 5. I'm using a Canon XA10 (HDMI 1080P59.94) and two GoPros (1080P59.94) and a Ninja 2 as my recorder which needs to see 1080i59.94 ... will this switcher do that without extra scan converters in the mix?

A: Yes, the product will scale your footage and there is a switch that allows you to select the output, including 1080i.

Q: 6. Can I use the Ninja Atomos 2 with V-1HD?

A: Yes I just bought both and tested- works great! Don't forget to buy a solid state hard drive to put in the Ninja (2.5 ). Enjoy!

Q: 7. Can this record from a Direct TV DVR?

A: Direct TV would be copy protected content and the Roland UVC-01 would not work.

Q: 8. Is it possible to use the Oddyssey 7q with this unit and is there a scaler available which will convert to 1080p 50 to match the rest of my gear?

A: I have not used Odyssey 7q with the Roland V1-HD, but I think with a good HDMI to SDI converter (Eg. Blackmagic design) it would work with the unit. The Roland V1-HD has 3 resolution, 720p, 1080i and 1080p, with 2 frame rate 50 and 59.99. So you probably don't need another converter to use 1080p50.

Q: 9. Can I stream with this switcher by sending the video feed to my laptop and thru YouTube or Ustream or do I need streaming hardware?

A: The streaming hardware IS actually your laptop. But you will need some kind of a HDMI input device for your laptop. I use a blackmagic usb3 device to get the hdmi signal into the laptop. And then you will need some kind of streaming software. I hope this helps. Brent

Q: 10. I am looking to purchase this for a school TV studio. We will go live using a Box Caster. Will I still need an encoder like the one paired with the Roland V-1HD? (Matrox Encoder)

A: You will need an encoder.
