This 75 x 85mm ND Filter Plus+ from Urth darkens the entire image area, allowing motion blur to be captured and greater creative control over depth of field. This ND1000 filter reduces exposure by 10-stops, allowing the desired settings to be maintained in overly bright conditions to create dramatic motion blur and shallow depth of field. This filter is fabricated from German Schott glass for true light transmittance and supreme image sharpness. The filter surface features a 20-layer nano-coating, providing neutral color balance, reduced lens flare and ghosting, and protection from smudges and scratches.

Compatible with the Urth 75 x 85mm Square Filter Holder System and most 75mm square filter holders.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. with an ultra-wide angle lens (i.e. Canon 16-35mm F4L with a full frame camera), do you get the dreaded X show up and if so at what density does it show up?

A: The X you can sometimes pick up in the image with a variable ND filter is caused most of the time by variable ND filters that go over 7-8 stops and lower quality ones. The B+W filter is fine. The one thing you might pick up is when set to the widest setting on that lens, 16mm you might pick up some vignette. And that is going to happen with that lens with most filters because of how wide it can go. The filter is designed with a thinner frame so it should be somewhat minimal.

Q: 2. 82mm. Does this filter have "front threads", for instance to screw on a lens hood?

A: The following system offer 86mm Front Filter Threads.

Q: 3. Hey, are these compatible with the Z8?

A: These filters will work on the Nikon Z8.

Q: 4. How smooth is the rotation ring?

A: The rotation ring on this filter moves easily and smoothly--much better than most variable ND filters.

Q: 5. is it waterproof for ocean videography?

A: The Freewell ND16 Filter for GoPro HERO9 Black is not a dive filter meant for underwater videography or photography.

Q: 6. Does this filter cause that dreaded hourglass darkening when set at 1.5? I have one that if I get past 1/2 the settings, it gets a distorted discoloration. Thanks

A: I have taken a series of exposures at each stop...bright light, but needed long exposure. I didn't see any hourglass effect.

Q: 7. Hi there Is this ND compatible to use with Sony Fe 400/2.8—i.e. internally? Thanks

A: No, the B+W 40.5mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter would not be compatible for use with the Sony FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens. While the Sony FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens does use 40.5mm filters, the B+W 40.5mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter would be too thick for usage in the drop-in filter holder.

Q: 8. Will I be able to use my LX100 auto lens cap or JJC auto lens cap with this?

A: You will be able to use lens caps with this filter, yes.

Q: 9. Is the filter removable to add other 52mm filters?

A: No, when using the DEO-Tech VND Filter Holder with Built-In VND2-1000 Filter, the filter is not removable.

Q: 10. Can this filter be used on wide angle lenses for example Sigma 10-20mm? I have tried cheaper alternatives with extremely poor results. Uneven darkening and camera (Pentax K-7) metering failing resulting in gross underexposure.

A: I've tried only 2 variable ND filters: this B+W one and a similar one by Genustech. Non-variable ND filters have fewer problems. From what I've read, most of the variable ND's, like the Genustech, have the shortcomings you describe. This B+W does not. It is consistent in how it transmits light across the whole filter without the usual cross artifact that darkens the image unevenly. I use this filter mainly for video with large sensor cameras; my only qualm with the filter is that it doesn't get dark enough for very bright scenes and that's partly due to my lowest ISO rating being 400. So I have to stop down the lens anyway, just not as much, but more than I'd like to. I can't vouch for no vignetting on a 10mm super wide lens. I get no vignetting at 17mm focal length on my 17-55mm Nikon zoom. B+W's engineering and build quality is usually superior to the rest.
