This 75 x 100mm Soft-Edge Graduated ND Filter from Urth is a rectangular filter that darkens specific areas of an image, such as bright skies, while allowing for a normal, unaffected exposure in the remainder of the image area. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a soft-edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas. This soft-edge design is appropriate for use with images that feature a prominent horizon, or any soft transition between sky and land, like wooded landscapes and cityscapes. This filter provides a 1-stop reduction in light from entering the lens and does not affect the coloration of the image.

Constructed from Schott optical glass for clarity and color fidelity, this filter features 20-layers of nano multi-coating to reduce potential glare and lens flare. This filter is 2mm thick and fits the Urth 75mm Filter System, plus other 75mm-wide filter holder systems.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use this to mount a 100mm Tripod head to a 75mm Tripod bowl?

A: This is exactly what it's designed for.

Q: 2. Im use canon ef 16-35 f2.8 iii can use original lens cap? and can attach original lens hood?

A: The front thread is a larger 86mm thread so the original 82mm hood and cap that came with the lens you would use this on will not work with this filter no.

Q: 3. Hey guys/gals! I have the 82mm on a sony GMaster 24-70mm 2.8. I mainly got it for shooting video becasue slog has a minimum iso of 800 so I needed to reduce the light. Everything seemed to be working perfectly for awhile but now I'm starting to notice some vignetting in the corners when I'm at 24mm. It's very slight when shooting video but pretty bad when I'm shooting photos. What's goin on?? Anyone else with a similar experience or did I just not notice it before for some reason?...

A: That is true and why I sent it back. Get the Schneider 82mm True-Match Vari-ND Filter instead. It does not do that due to it's type of construction. Although more money, it is worth it.

Q: 4. is a five stop density enough to get the milky effect on water falls and ocean ? I am also looking to photograph motion ( still images) not sure if if i need a denser filter or five stops should suffice.

A: It would mainly depend on the amount of ambient light on the scene and your camera's settings as to if 5-stops would be enough for your needs. For most lenses, and if using the camera's lowest ISO setting, 5-stops should be enough for you to create a situation to have a shutter speed between 1/4 sec to 4 seconds, depending on the type of waterfall and available light restraints. If you use a low ISO, a mid- to small aperture, and a shutter speed between 1/4 sec to 4 seconds (or test for your needs), then the B+W 82mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC nano Filter would work for your needs.

Q: 5. Does this filter have front threads so I can attach it to a matte box or an additional filter? Thanks!

A: Yes it does have a front thread of 77mm.

Q: 6. Do you think I would get vignetting if I used this on a 10mm with a 77mm filter thread and a step up ring?

A: I suspect you would get 'some' vignetting, but don't have actual experience with this combination.

Q: 7. The image looks extremely thick, is this filter thin?

A: The B+W 77mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter is 12.3mm (0.48 inches) thick.

Q: 8. Does this filter cause that dreaded hourglass darkening when set at 1.5? I have one that if I get past 1/2 the settings, it gets a distorted discoloration. Thanks

A: I have taken a series of exposures at each stop...bright light, but needed long exposure. I didn't see any hourglass effect.

Q: 9. Has anyone tried the Variable 82mm on a sony 16-35GM2.8? I want to know if you saw any vignetting or any issues with it. I know the 24-70gm also has the same filter thread so I was wondering just how wide you can go with the filter beefore vignetting.

A: Today's Polarizers from quality manufacturers are all made to be thin to avoid vignetting on wide lenses. This one from B+W has the coveted Thin Brass Filter Ring. You will be good.

Q: 10. Will this filter fit the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 lens?

A: Yes, it fits.
