Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the dummy battery replaceable?

A: Not necessarily. You would need to rewire a dummy battery if you wanted to use a different dummy battery type.

Q: 2. Do the XLR connectors just transfer the signal, or is there a pre-amp before getting sent off to the camera?

A: That is a good question, one that I am not completely sure of. I have used both a shotgun mic (which required phantom power) and lavaliere mics with this rig. The phantom power is drawn off the L batteries on the harness. Both mics worked incredibly well in terms of quality of audio recording once the BMPCC was able to monitor audio levels. Before they made that upgrade it was a bit of a guessing game. If I had to guess, I would say that it is just transferring the signal, although with the price I paid for this thing it should come with an internal amp and a back massage. Might need to contact the manufacturer on this one.

Q: 3. Is this product made of metal?

A: The rail mounting clamp and bolt are metal. The battery and microphone input block is plastic (except for electrical connections and a few small pieces on the xlr inputs. The plastic has so far held up fine -- without receiving 'kid glove' treatment. Biggest issue is that there is nothing that locks batteries in place, and the shape makes rigging a solution a bit of a chore. As a cord-cutter, we've ran a BMPCC for a good eight hour day with almost no off-time, and plenty of checking takes - and could have gone hours more. Keep an eye on camera temp during extended 'camera on' shoots - especially if shooting time lapse in RAW format - parts of the camera can get too hot to touch and suffer damage. This not an 'approved' Blackmagic device, so may lack some form of power management on a camera that has no self-cooling system. Note the xlr inputs are just converters (not a preamp and offer no phantom power). Otherwise, a good, budget solution with a touch of DIY to keep batteries on the unit. For pro use, there are better and, naturally, more expensive choices. That said, ours is still in the field...

Q: 4. Will this work with the BMPCC 6K Pro?

A: Yes it will.

Q: 5. Will it be okay to have an LP-E6 inserted while using this cable plug? (In case I need to move my camera and I have to unplug but want to keep the camera running)

A: It is okay to have an LP-E6 battery in the camera while using the A/C power supply. If the battery the charged and you remove the a/c power supply the camera will continue be running until the LP-E6 battery has been depleted.

Q: 6. The cable is listed as being "Coiled 24 to 36" Camera Power Cable", however in the photo it is not coiled and does not appear to be very long. Can you verify that the maximum length of the cable is 36" and whether it is coiled or not?

A: The IndiPRO Tools Dual NP-F Power System with 15mm Rod Mount cable is coiled despite the images on our site.

Q: 7. I would like to know where do I connect that cable from a plate to?

A: The barrel connector connects to the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera.

Q: 8. Is this compatible with other cameras? Specifically Sony a7siii

A: No, the following unit is made and designed for blackmagic pocket cinema camera.

Q: 9. Will this work with BMPCC 6K?

A: Yes will work with the 4k and 6k.

Q: 10. Will this power the Blackmagic Cinema 6k Pro?

A: Yes, this will work with the 6K Pro as well.

I bought this camera with the discounted pricing of roughly $1600. Just the fact that it comes with a full version of Resolve worth over $300, shooting compressed RAW with great color science, and easy to handle, all in one form factor is incredible.
Is this camera perfect? No. But if you know how to handle it, it serves well as a B CAM for even Alexas.

This camera seems wonderful so far. The sale was amazing. The screen on the back of the camera had a strange green tint to it that was concerning but apparently it just needed to be calibrated through the settings, so that was a super easy fix.

With the drop in the Full Frame price I picked up one, but if you need ProRes and would be fine with a Matte Box like the Mirage for the current price you won't find much better in a cinema camera that shoots Raw 6K at reasonable frame rates and good Codecs. While I am loving the Open Gate of the Full Frame and the automatic proxies getting made, I have to keep the G2's and and Pocket 4K's for some of my other shoots that need ProRes - BMD has really found a way to make shooters who have packages create packages around all of their cameras and locked into the Resolve Eco system (Which is great as it's free with the Camera and Free without Limited and easy to use, took a bit of getting used to, still working on completely cutting Adobe out of my work flow)
