I don't use the pin, so I covered it with a piece of tape. The part is well-made. I should add that I got mine with a Vanguard ball head which I don't recommend. The head doesn't lock anymore after just a couple years of very sparse use. No matter how much you tighten it, it slips.I was in B&H yesterday, and the store copy was the same! Looked nice, good value, didn't hold up. So no more Vanguard for me. But the plate should be OK, just keep a coin around to attach it to the camera. Hope this helps!
