Tilta 4x4" Lightweight Matte Box

Tilta 4x4" Lightweight Matte Box
  • Product Code: ga9760
  • Availability: In Stock

$1,104.00 $1,324.80

The Tilta 4x4" Lightweight Matte Box easily mounts onto 15mm rods via its rod adapter. It features two 4x4" filter holders. The lightweight construction adds very little weight to your system, and the swing-away design moves the matte box out of the way during lens changes, without having to remove the matte box from the rods.

The back of the matte box features a 114mm opening for lenses, and it comes with 80 and 95mm diameter lens adapters, and a fabric donut (Nun's Knickers), for use with smaller diameter lenses. The lens adapters and fabric donut are used to prevent light from leaking from behind the lens and reflecting off filters and flaring your image. The matte box features a removable top flag (eyebrow) that attaches to a hinge so you can precisely set the flag at the edge of your frame to block light sources from flaring.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Just got this and the box itself is horizontally off next to the rail mount. When sitting on perfectly leveled rods it sits to the left making the lens sit wrong too. Anyone else got this issue? Is there any leveling adjustment I can do myself? Thanks.

A: Most advanced matte boxes, such as this one, have various adjustments. It looks as though if you loosen the silver handles next to the blue bracket on the camera right side of the mattebox, you should be able to level it properly.

Q: 2. Can this matte box be adapted for 19mm rods?

A: For that you would need to get a 19mm Bridge Plate to 15mm Mini Adapter, such as BH #MOBPA for Movcam. https://bhpho.to/3051blx

Q: 3. Can I use the clamp on to a 114mm Xeen Lens?

A: 114mm is the maximum lens diameter that can fit into this matte box.

Q: 4. Will the clamp work for lenses with 114mm diameter?

A: 114mm is the maximum lens diameter that can fit into this matte box.

Q: 5. This can work with lens SIGMA 18,35mm ? Blackmajick 6K ? All of my lens it's Sigma's! Let me know plz

A: The Tilta 4x4" Lightweight Matte Box will work with any lenses that are 114mm or less in diameter.

Q: 6. Hi. Do any of the two Filter stages rotate to accommodate a Polarizer or a Grad filter? Can't seem to tell from the specs/photos. Thanks!

A: The 2nd stage, One closest to the lens rotates. The front stage does not. Hope this helps !

Q: 7. Can the height be adjusted for this so it's versatile for different rigs/cameras?

A: You can adjust the height on this rig by about an inch. If you look at the front, on the left side you can see two little knobs with silver poles sticking out. You loosen those and the entire front of the unit will slide up and down along tracks. Tighten those knobs again to lock it in place.

Q: 8. Ikan's website says the following Additionally, you get four lens adaptors (72mm, 80mm, 90mm, 114mm) however there is no mention of the 114mm adaptor on B&H. To add to my confusion Ikan state in their specs that the largest lens for matte box is 100mm. Will this mattebox fit on a 114mm lens?

A: Good question. To clarify this, The MB-T05 comes with 2 lens adapters:80mm95mmThe Donut ring measured out to be 110mm. When you remove all accessories, the MB-T05 has a lens diameter of 114mm. So the MB-T05 only has 5 options:Nuns Knickers80mm95mm110mm114mm

Q: 9. Do the adapter rings have internal threads for mounting screw-on filters? I realize the matte box can accommodate a square filter, but I'm hoping the adapters don't prevent me from using the screw-on filters I already own.

A: Yes, the adapter rings have internal threads for mounting screw-on filters.

Q: 10. I have a Digital Bolex on a zacuto recoil and a titla ff, will this work with it?

A: Adan, we don't have those to try in-house, but, so long as your equipment is compatible with 15mm LWS, you should be good to go!

I bought the Redrock Micro Matte box when it was in the Deal Zone and was really excited. It came, I set it up and it had some glaring issues. For one, it was clunky and too big. But most of all, the design didn't allow me to have great positioning of the center of the box with the lens/camera. So i returned that and bought this. It was cheaper (than the regular price) but I saw that in the design, it seemed like it had greater flexibility in regards to the positioning of everything. I assumed correctly. It's awesome. Every piece of it I actually love. Much smaller and lighter but still has a huge opening for big cine lenses. Plus, it uses 4x4 filters rather than the bigger filters the RR used. I love it. One of my favorite buys in recent history.

Using this matte box with my C100 and L lenses. Does what I need for my budget. I am pleased with the quality. I also have the Tilta focus assist too which is equally well made. I am happy with this line of accesories.

Bought the matte box three years ago and it still excels everyday I use it. Compact enough to fit in a backpack, lightweight and really solid build, and the price is perfect.

Great mattebox. It is a bit limited since it isn't compatible with side flags (ears) but most of the time all I need is the eyebrow anyways. Other than that this guys is awesome. Some might shy away because it only holds 4x4 filters, but you really don't need anything bigger than that unless you rock anamorphics. And if you can afford anamorphics then you can afford to rent out top level matteboxes. I love this mattebox, no complaints! Honestly I've become a big fan of Tilta over the years. For a Chinese company, they don't live up to the cheap Chinese stigma. Their products are at a very competitive price and they've always been well made and good investments.

If you're looking for a good matte box do yourself a favor and don't buy a $ knock off of a bigger matte box, I did that years ago and never used it because it was a piece of junk. This matte box is ruggedly built, it's not a knock off, it's a well designed matte box with minimal features that work perfectly, and are suitable for most camera operators. I like to run a small rig, I'm not looking for a behemoth matte box to make my camera look bigger, I just needed something functional, that is well built and can be used day in and day out. This checks off all the boxes. The size is perfect for using lenses with 100mm or less front diameter. Which are all the lenses I own. The included elastic nun's knickers in addition to the different clamp on adapter sizes is great. Everything that should be metal is metal, it's lightweight, sturdy and overall everything most operators need. Something to keep in mind is that it comes with a top flag, and there is no way to attach side flags or a bottom flag, I rarely use flags, so for me it wasn't an issue, and If I have a job that demands that kind of control it will be in the budget to rent a more feature rich matte box. Also the hood itself is made of plastic that is relatively flimsy, still rugged, just bendy. If you're the kind of operator who likes to grab hold of the matte box while shooting you might consider the carbon fiber version. I'm an owner operator and I need rugged, lightweight, professional equipment that delivers job after job.
