The Roland VC-1-SH SDI to HDMI Video Converter allows SDI video to be monitored using relatively inexpensive HDMI-equipped displays, and can also serve and an audio embedder and de-embedder. The internal processing has been designed to faithfully preserve the incoming SDI signal and frame rate without introducing interlacing artifacts, signal errors, or reducing the dynamic range of the image. The SDI signal is re-clocked before processing to help ensure best performance.

The VC-1-SH features an SDI input that supports 3G-SDI, HD-SDI, and SD-SDI. A hybrid balanced stereo analog and AES3 audio input allows additional audio sources to be embedded in the HDMI output. For local monitoring there is an HDMI out that can be used with standard, consumer-grade HDMI displays. In addition, the there is an SDI loop-out that also passes any newly embedded audio. A hybrid analog/AES audio output allows you to locally monitor any embedded audio in case audio output is not provided by the HDMI display--this includes audio embedded within the VC-1-SH.

Two 1/4" TRS inputs forming a L/R stereo pair allow a balanced analog or AES3 digital audio signal (using only the "R" input) to be embedded in the SDI stream, along with any existing embedded audio. Once imbedded, the audio is passed to the HDMI output as well as the SDI loop-out. In addition, all embedded audio is output through two more 1/4" TRS jacks either as stereo analog or AES3 digital (through the "R" output). This feature means the VC-1-SH can serve as a standalone audio embedded/de-embedder as well as a video converter

Re-clocking is applied to the SDI inputs. Reclocking rebuilds the signal following attenuation do to longer cable runs and is designed to help ensure error-free performance as well as minimize signal dropouts

Part of the SMPTE 424M specification, Level A transports up to 60 progressive frames while Level B implements a multiplexing scheme that combines two stream of 50 or 60 Hz interlaced video. Support for both variants helps ensure this device will be widely compatible with 3G-SDI video equipment

Using the VC-1 RCS control application, available for free download from Roland, you can configure the VC-1-SH with more refined parameters than are available on the unit itself

Being able to send an SDI signal out of the Zcam means a step up in quality and reliability. I cringe every time I have to insert or remove an HDMI cable from my camera, hoping I'm not causing any damage to the interface. With this unit I am less worried about accidentally knocking the cable out and really doing some damage. The Zcam probably should have come with an SDI interface but now you can have one at a good price.

I own 2 of these devices. I've used them very often, both as signal testers and as replacements for converters on shows. Great buy.

I own a couple of these and they are great devices overall. Along with the conversion I also use them as kind of a kick cable tester. The signal strength indicator often clues me in on whether or not my cable has some kind of problem.

Someone else here said the converter can not do 1080p60 but I am using it with that resolution all the time out of a Roland VR-50HDMKII video switcher. Never had a problem with any output resolution.

One big note on this converter. It can ONLY do 3G-SDI Level A. It does not work with Level B. Otherwise these units have been no problem at all in the field.

Someone else came up with the idea to put a little plexiglass cover on the top to protect the built in monitor. I thought that was a great idea and have done that for my units.

Love the locking thread DC ports. I don't have to use the Lemo connector anymore and worry about damaging the pins.

This Elvid Video Converter is one of those tools that makes your production life so much easier. If you work with SDI equipment but need to integrate HDMI signals, this little guy is a lifesaver. I love how simple it is, just plug in your HDMI source, and boom, it converts the signal to two SDI outputs. Whether you're sending video to a monitor, switcher, or both, it gets the job done without any fuss.

For live events, studio work, or any situation where you need to convert from HDMI to SDI, it’s been super reliable. And the best part is, it supports up to 1080p60, so you're getting really crisp, broadcast-quality video. I’ve used it with my camera and even hooked it up to my computer when I needed to send video to an SDI workflow. It handles both like a pro.

One thing I really appreciate is how compact and sturdy it is. The metal body gives it that extra durability, so I don’t have to worry about it getting damaged when I’m transporting gear. And there is flexibility for power options. It comes with an AC adapter if you have access to a wall outlet. but can be also be powered from a computer or device with a 5V USB output. It’s great to have that choice depending on your setup.

Honestly, for anyone looking to bridge the gap between HDMI and SDI, this converter is a solid, hassle-free solution. It’s small, reliable, and just works. It's exactly what you need when you’re on the go or in the studio. [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review]

I think people who know, know that SDI is a pro connection. I use this flawlessly with my Zacuto Gratical Eye evf. It can also be use in conjunction with the atomos SDI to loop through.
I have both. Love them.

The Elvid 3G-SDI to HDMI Micro Video Converter is one of those pieces of gear you don’t realize you need until you do. It’s such a convenient tool for anyone working with SDI equipment but needing to connect to HDMI gear like monitors or computers. I’ve used it to convert SDI signals from a camera to my HDMI monitor, and it’s super easy...just plug in, and you're good to go. It has worked flawlessly for me.

What I appreciate most is how versatile it is. It supports up to 1080p60, so I’m getting crisp, broadcast-quality video every time. Plus, the SDI loop output is a fantastic bonus, letting me retain the option to still send out the signal SDI and not only HDMI. Whether you’re working with a 2nd monitor that is SDI or another SDI device, it keeps everything running smoothly.

The power options are also a nice plus. If I’m somewhere with an AC outlet, it comes with an adapter. Or I can run it off my computer’s USB port, or any other device with a 5V USB output It’s nice to have that flexibility, especially on location. And speaking of locations, the compact and durable metal design makes it super portable. I can toss it in my gear bag without worrying about it getting banged up. And I love that it has a little blue light to let you know it is receiving power and is on. That is good information to have, especially when on location.

For anyone dealing with both SDI and HDMI setups and gear, this little converter is a must-have. It’s reliable, compact, and makes switching between SDI and HDMI workflows a breeze. It’s been a handy addition to my kit for my productions. [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review]

You just plug it in and it works. The best thing is you still retain and HDMI out while adding SDI out. Great for getting video to two separate devices.
