The Rolls MM11 Pro Switchable Microphone Mute/Talk Switch is a device designed to allow users to temporarily switch between mute or talk functions over a balanced XLR signal. This switch features a push-to-talk / push-to-mute switch. The MM11 Pro passes phantom power with no popping on the outputs when switched.
The switch can be simply pressed for muting (or talking) and released to hear the signal again (or to mute). This function is very handy in the event of a sneeze, cough, or other possibly distracting noise, even when the microphone is active. It has a large actuator switch, which may be used by hand or on the floor with your foot.

Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Does it require the battery for all mic types and does it come with a battery?
A: The Kopul MuteMate 2x2 Momentary Microphone Mute/Talk Switch is a passive switch which does not require a battery to function with any type of microphone. A 3V CR 1220 lithium battery is included with the MuteMate 2x2 and the battery is used only to power the LED indicator light. Since the switch is passive, it will function regardless of whether or not the battery is used.
Q: 2. How effective is this on a vocal condenser mic? I want to put this mute switch in line between the mic and an affects processor which will supply phantom power.
A: It works quite well. I use a Shure SM35 headset mic when playing my electric upright and use this to kill my mic when I'm not singing. It works great with external phantom power. It does suck batteries, though, if you have it off a good bit. I go through a 9v Duracell Quantum battery every 1.5 gigs. However, when the power dies, it defaults to the mic being on, so you don't lose your mic in mid-set if the battery dies. If you're using a powered pedalboard or can run from the wall wart, you'll be fine. Switching is quiet, so you don't even notice when you turn the mic on and off. Overall, it's a great pedal and I use it every week.
Q: 3. Does the Rolls MM11 actually turn on and off the mic or is it a moment contact switch that you have to hold to talk?
A: The Rolls MM11 is a momentary (non-latching) switch so you need to hold it down to function. It can be set to work as either a "push to talk" or "push to mute" switch. An internal switch (accessible from the side) allows you to choose how it will function.
Q: 4. Do you have to hold the switch to talk or does it actually turn on and hold the mic in the on positon and then press again to turn off the mic?
A: That depends on how you set the switch to function. The Rolls MM11 Pro is a momentary (non-latching) switch, so you do need to hold the switch to use it, but you can decide whether you want it to function as a momentary mute or a momentary push-to-talk switch. An internal switch (accessible from the side) allows you to select "push to mute" or "push to talk." If you want a switch that you press once for "on" and press again for "off," then you need a latching switch. The Rolls MS111 Mic Switch (B&H # ROMS111) can be set to function as a latching on/off switch or as a momentary microphone mute switch, so you have the option of using it either way.
Q: 5. When using a microphone with phantom power, does pop noise occur (when pressing or release the button)?
A: The Kopul MuteMate 2x2 Momentary Microphone Mute/Talk Switch should not present a "pop" sound when used with a condenser microphone and phantom power.
Q: 6. Does it work with old analog axient?
A: No just the new digital models.
Q: 7. Would this mic work well for dictation with programs such as Dragon Naturally Speaking?
A: Although this can work for dictation software, it will pick up surrounding conversation in the room. This Polsen Omnidirectional USB Boundary mic would work great for recording meetings, or for remote video conferencing - but I would not recommend it for use with dragon primarily. This Polsen dynamic USB mic would be a better option, for isolated capture of a single voice for transcription: https://bhpho.to/371Sf8P USB headset mics like the Logitech H570e can also be a good choice for transcription: https://bhpho.to/3Lw7F4r
Q: 8. I'm seeing some Q&A here regarding various devices, but here is both a Q and A regarding the Whirlwind Micmute PTD:Does this device pass phantom power, even when muted, so that condenser mics may be used?
A: Phantom will pass as the mute position shorts pins 2 and 3, but the unit is likely to pop when used with phantom. For truly silent switching , use the MicMute PX.
Q: 9. Does this work with Shure BLX2/SM58 and Shure QLXD2/SM58 Handheld Wireless Microphone Transmitters ?
A: BLX2 - no. QLXD2 - yes.
Q: 10. How long does the battery last?
A: There is no indication provided for the life expectancy of the 3V CR 1220 lithium battery provided to power the LED light on the Kopul MuteMate 2x2 Momentary Microphone Mute/Talk Switch. Due to its simple, non-demanding functionality it would be estimated to last through a significant amount of use.
