Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do these masks scan the sprockets/film borders?

A: No, the Negative Supply Basic Film Carrier 35 MK2 does not scan the sprocket holes/boarder on film. This does for 35mm, https://bhpho.to/46BBKJJ.

Q: 2. Can I slide a strip of 35mm film from one frame to the next without scratching it? does it lie totally flat when doing this?

A: You should open the frame so you do not scratch your negatives when using the Sunray Panorama 120 film Carrier.

Q: 3. Does this support xpan panoramic images 24x65mm?

A: Yes, this comes with three different scanning mounts. One of the scanning mounts is meant for panoramic images.

Q: 4. Does this come automatically with the stabilizing mask and hood?

A: The Negative Supply Basic Film Carrier 120 MK2 only comes with Negative Supply Basic Film Carrier 120 MK2, 4 x Masks (6 x 4.5, 6 x 6, 6 x 7, 6 x 9), and Limited 2-Year Manufacturer Warranty.

Q: 5. What improvements changed between the original version and this new release?

A: According to the manufacturer, compared to the original version, the new Plustek OpticFilm 120 Film Scanner has an entirely new sensor and upgraded, higher-quality circuitry when compared to its predecessor. Plustek has a new manufacturing process with stricter quality control, and the scanner's calibration has been adjusted for better overall performance and image quality.

Q: 6. Does it support MacOS Sierra?

A: Yes it does. SilverFast has just been updated for Retina also. It works really well.

Q: 7. What are the SPECS and OVERVIEW of this product? Does it hold 6x6, 6x7, 6x9, 6x10, 6x12, and 6x17 negatives?

A: This holder is only suitable from 6x4.5cm to 6 x 12 cm negatives.

Q: 8. Are additional film carriers available for purchase?

A: We do not sell additonal holders for this model.

Q: 9. All of my 120 negatives are cut to fit 9 1/2 clear vu sheets, i.e. 4 negatives in 6x6 format. Will the 120 holder allow scanning without cutting or damaging the 2 1/4 x9 1/2 negative strip?

A: Maybe. The scanner will only scan up to 3 frames at a time and the holder is about 3/4 shorter than what is needed to accommodate your strip. The last portion will be curled. The good news is that when you are done with the first three you can turn the film 180 degrees and scan the last frame. The holder will hold the film flat enough to scan. I have not had it damage my film yet, but if the film is older (20 years or more) or brittle I would not attempt it without cutting the strip.

Q: 10. I recently purchased a Hassy 503CW with two backs. Oneis clearly marked 6x6. The other is not marked but producesnegatives (images) that measure 5.6mmx5.6mm. Can I assumethis is the same as 6x6 or is it a film that cannot be scannedby this unit?

A: Yes. 120 medium format contains a range of frame sizes; the most common being the 6x6cm size. This actually has a frame size of 56mm x 56mm.

I have been using Paterson Negative file pages for years. I really like their use of glassine material rather than plastics to hold the store the film. I have some negatives that have been stored in glassine for over 40 years and they still look great.
