NFC Automatic Channel-Setting Mode
Press and hold the NFC/Sync button, and the dual receiver scans for the two cleanest RF channels (one for each transmitter). Simply hold the transmitters next to the receiver; it automatically syncs up and you’re good to go!
High-Gain Mode for DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras
The High-Gain mode boosts the output level of the receiver, allowing you to turn down the input gain of your DSLR/mirrorless camera to achieve an even quieter signal.
External Mic Input for Additional Wired Microphone
There is an external mic-input connector on the receiver for plugging in an additional wired microphone. It allows for up to four-channel audio recording when using a stereo microphone.
Built-In 4-Channel Mixer
The URX-P41D offers a 4-channel mixer that enables you to control your mic levels (up to four) as well as assign output 1 and/or 2 as needed.
High-Visibility OLED Display for Indoor/Outdoor Use
The URX-P41D features an easy-to-read OLED display. The quick response of the display lets you see the operating conditions clearly and accurately in real time, even in bright sunlight.
Channel Memory Function for Fast Switching Between 4 Transmitters
The channel memory function lets you quickly switch between the groom’s lav mic and the wedding guest’s interview mic with the press of a button. It also allows for a fast change between up to four mics in corporate presentations or quickly swapping to back-up mics.
To achieve stable audio, the URX-P41D employs true-diversity technology with two antennas and two independent receiver sections within the unit. Both RF signals are compared and the stronger signal is automatically selected for output—reducing dropouts to a minimum (True diversity is available only in single-channel mode. In dual-channel mode, the receiver relies on antenna diversity).
The angle of the two antennas can be adjusted to further prevent signal dropouts.
Great for videographers traveling to different cities, the All-Band scanning function scans the entire spectrum of the receiver to give you the two best frequencies at your shooting location. The system offers a 72 MHz bandwidth with 2772 UHF frequencies.
Unlike with traditional analog wireless systems, The URX-P41D supplements its proven analog UHF transmission technology with a proprietary digital audio processing. Transient sounds and consonants are reproduced with greater accuracy, resulting in clear, natural sound that’s intelligible and nuanced.
The URX-P41D features a robust, all-metal construction well suited for tough operating conditions.
Using the included shoemount adapter, the URX-P41D easily mounts on your camera, while adding minimal weight to your rig. Cables are included to connect to cameras equipped with either a 3.5mm or an XLR audio inputs.
The optional SMAD-P5 digital MI Shoe adapter allows you to integrate the URX-P41D with XDCAM camcorders and select Sony cameras equipped with a digital Multi Interface Shoe.
- This setup provides a direct digital connection, skipping the receiver’s D/A and camera’s A/D converters for superior audio quality and low noise.
- Audio information such as RF level meter, audio-mute status, and low-battery alert for the transmitters is displayed on the camera's viewfinder.
- This cable-free configuration allows for fast setup in the field.
Two AA batteries (alkaline or NiMH rechargeable type) power the URX-P41D for up to 4.5 hours.
A battery count-up timer allows for accurate reading of battery running time to minute accuracy.
The URX-P41D can also be powered through its USB port, allowing it to run for numerous hours on a USB power pack or indefinitely, if you have access to AC.
With the SMAD-P5 Digital MI Shoe adapter, the URX-P41D can get power directly from Sony cameras equipped with an MI Shoe.
Cartridge-type battery cases allow for quick battery replacement on set.
If your camera doesn’t have a headphone jack, Phone mode lets you monitor your sound via the receiver’s headphone output while recording.
- The URX-P41D provides a variable output level control of ±12 dB, useful when working with cameras without manual input level control.
- Simple menus make navigation easy. Advanced menus for in-depth control are also available.
- You can operate up to 16 mics per frequency band in one location.
This fourth-generation URX-P41D receiver can be used with UWP Series, third-Generation and fourth-generation UWP-D Series, and WL-800 Series transmitters.
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Is there a 3.5mm to TA3 cable to plug this into an 833 TA3 input?
A: A cable such as the Cable Techniques 3.5mm TRS to TA3F Balanced Cable (BH #CACTS2KT318) could be used to facilitate connection between the locking 3.5 mm TRS female balanced output on the Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver and the TA3 input connections on the Sound Devices 833 Multitrack Field Recorder.
Q: 2. If utilizing this receiver with a Sony FX-3 and the SMAD-P5 and using two transmitters, is the system still true diversity? Also, is auto gain control the only option with the SMAD-P5 and the FX-3?
A: Yes, the Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver still uses true diversity reception when receiving audio from two transmitters and connected to the Sony SMAD-P5 Digital MI Shoe Adapter.
Q: 3. Will the SMAD-P3 work with this system?
A: No, the SMAD-P5 would be the compatible model for the URX-P41D.
Q: 4. Will this work with the Shure G50 band transmitters?
A: The Sony URX-P41D will not work with Shure transmitters.
Q: 5. Will the balanced output drive a device that requires line level input? I was thinking of connecting it directly to the line level input of the Radial EXO-POD.
A: The Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver is only capable of Mic level output signals and does not offer Line level output.
Q: 6. What adapter cables are include with the receiver?
A: The Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver comes with 2 x XLR to Locking 3.5mm Output Cables and one 3.5mm to Locking 3.5mm Cable.
Q: 7. I am interested in purchasing this wireless microphone but am unsure what frequency to purchase. I live in Los Angeles, is there a preferred frequency for my region of the USA?
A: Because the Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver offers the ability to auto-scan it's 2,772 potential frequencies, it should allow you to find an open channel in virtually all areas in any of the three available bands. Frequency availability across bands could also change depending on your location within the greater Los Angeles area. In general, it appears that the UC14: 470 to 542 MHz band may offer the most access to open channels in Los Angeles out of the three available frequency bands.
Q: 8. What is the expected battery life when using Phantom Power?
A: When using the Sony UTX-P40 Wireless Plug-On Transmitter with two standard AA size alkaline batteries and output power is set for 30 or 40mW and phantom power is on, the estimated battery life is approximately 6 hours. With phantom power turned off, the estimated battery life is approximately 8 hours when set for 30mW of output power and approximately 7 hours when output power is set for 40mW.
Q: 9. What is the length of the receiver unit including the antennas?
A: The Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver measures 2.8 inches in height, and its antennas add another 5 inches for a total length of just under 8 inches.
Q: 10. Does the URX-P41D provide a stereo digital Mi connection with a FX30 camera when used in conjunction with the SMAD-P30 adaptor?
A: Yes, the Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver can send stereo audio into the MI shoe of a Sony camera, but the adapter you would need is the SMAD-P5.
