A sophisticated wide-angle prime, the Z-mount APO-LANTHAR 35mm f/2 Aspherical from Voigtlander holds the elite distinction of being part of the APO-LANTHAR series of optically refined, apochromatic lenses. A series of anomalous partial dispersion and aspherical elements help to suppress virtually all aberrations for especially high sharpness and color accuracy, and a floating elements system maintains consistent performance throughout the focusing range. A manual focus design is employed, along with a high precision helicoid, for refined focusing control and a Selective Aperture Control System allows the manual aperture ring to be de-clicked for smooth, silent exposure adjustment to suit filmmaking applications. Additionally, a 12-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality. This lens is compatible with Z-mount camera features, including Exif data transfer, manual focus assist, auto lens correction, and image stabilization (3-axis).

Wide-angle prime designed for full-frame Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras, however, can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide a 52.5mm equivalent focal length.

Bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also affords greater control over focus position for selective focus applications.

Using five partial dispersion elements, this lens has an apochromatic designation due to its ability to virtually eliminate color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to achieve higher clarity and color fidelity.

Two aspherical elements are incorporated towards the front and the rear of the 11 element, nine groups construction, and help to limit spherical aberrations and distortions for improved sharpness and accurate rendering.

Floating elements system maintains consistently high image quality throughout the focusing range, from 13.78" to infinity.

Manual focus design is complemented by a high-accuracy all-metal helicoid that provides an ideal amount of torque for high-precision control.

A 12-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality when working with shallow depth of field techniques.

Selective Aperture Control System produces a stepless, de-clicked aperture ring, which provides silent and smooth exposure adjustment that is well-suited for video application. The aperture ring can also be configured to utilize traditional 1/3-stop clicks for more intuitive tactile control over exposure settings.

Contacts transfer all Exif data between the camera and lens in order to permit full use of camera functions, including focus magnification, image stabilization (3-axis), and lens corrections.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What size filter does this take?

A: Voigtlander APO-LANTHAR 35mm f/2 Aspherical Lens for Sony E takes 49 mm screw in filters.

Q: 2. Does the lens hood have filter threads on the front? If so, what diameter in mm does it have?

A: The hood that comes with the Voigtlander MACRO APO-LANTHAR 65mm f/2 Aspherical Lens for Sony E does not have filter threads. The lens itself uses 67mm filter which can be used when using the hood.

Q: 3. Does the lens transfer EXIF data to the camera?

A: Using a Sony a7 series camera all of your data is recorded as usual for each frame. In addition it is one of the sharpest macro lenses I have ever owned

Q: 4. Is this lens an internally focusing design or does the lens get physically longer as it is focused closer?

A: This lens does not have internal focus, therefore it extends.

Q: 5. What hood would fit this lens?

A: The lens hood is dedicated and included.

Q: 6. Does the lens allow automatic setting of f/stop? That is, allow shooting in Aperture-priority mode.

A: Yes, Voigtlander APO-LANTHAR 35mm f/2 Aspherical Lens for Sony E is designed with contacts to interract with the camera settings electronically and provide metadata information on your images. You can control the lens aperture through the camera and select full Auto or Aperture priority mode.

Q: 7. How does the lens hood attach? Looking at the pictures of the lens I don't see any bayonets on the barrel for attaching one, but the description says a hood is included. Does it screw on the filter threads?

A: It screws onto the front of the lens via filter thread. Truth be told though, the front element is recessed a long way back from the end of the lens so a hood is mostly unnessacassary.

Q: 8. Does this lens function well with the zfc body?

A: Yes, the Voigtlander MACRO APO-LANTHAR 65mm f/2 will accommodate all Z Bodies please be mindful that the lens is a all manual lens.

Q: 9. Does the lens focus past infinity at fstop 2.0?

A: This lenses focus ring does go a bit beyond Infinity.

Q: 10. Does this lens fit directly on to and work well with Nikon ZF? Or, is an adapter required?

A: The Voigtlander MACRO APO-LANTHAR 65mm f/2 Aspherical for Nikon Z will mount directly to the Nikon ZF camera without the use of an adapter. While this lens is a manual-focus design, it does feature communication pins. This allows the lens to pass data to the camera, making this a great choice for the Nikon ZF.

I bought this as a walk-around lens for my Z7. I am very happy with it - especially its close focusing ability!

This isn't the place for a long and extensive review. There are a couple of sophisticated sources, but let me say a few things:

This lens is a very well made lens, mechanically and optically it totally convinces me. Mechanically it reminds me on the older Zeiss Classic series. Focus and aperture rings are moving absolutely smooth. There is no play in either direction. The lens mounts perfectly to the camera's (Z9) bayonet. Due to its electronic contacts it communicates with the camera which is especially advantageous for focus confirmation and EXIF data. Optically, i.e. resolution and rendering, I see it on Outs level. I couldn't detect any CA up to now. Only flaw is vignetting wide open which disappears from f/4 onwards. Its rendering is very similar to that of Zeiss Classic lenses. This lens and its 50mm brethren are all I need for 80% of my photography. Very well done COSINA!

Wonderfully sharp lens in a compact size. Not the greatest bokeh so I use a different 35/40 when I am going for that. But if I want sharp scene photos edge to edge, this APO is what I take.

I bought a grade 9+used copy from B&H. I wanted a SMALL prime that would allow scale focusing at f/11 for shooting unnoticed in crowds. I thought of using M-mount lenses on an adapter but most wide angles intended for M-mount have optical problems on Nikon Z, Sony E, etc. sensors with thicker-than-Leica sensor filter packs. Cosina claimed this lens was optimized for the Nikon Z sensor group and that it was an optically high performing lens. It is, and it is. Wide open and at every stop, the shots have less visible aberrations than my Zeiss ZF 35/2 or my Nikon Z 24-70/2.8. This is an extremely high performing lens. In night shots, flare from point light sources is negligible but clear protective filters --- even multicoated ones --- will cause mirror-style ghost spots. The Voigtlander 35/2 Apo for Nikon Z shows normal loss of high frequency detail at the small stops, following the pattern of all lenses I've used. F/8 is good, f/11 is fine at 24 megapixels, f/16 might need additional sharpening. Now please---if Cosina would make companion 28mm and 21mm lenses of similar quality, I'd be happy to buy them.

I immediately put the lens on my Sony a7r5 and took it around the corner and shot the front of an 8 story building straight on filling the frame with the building. Put the raw images in Adobe Camera Raw
and output a lightly processed tiff and examined the corners which were excellent and sharp. The image was shot at f8, ISO 100. Sharpness overall was excellent. When I added extra sharpness the detail was fantastic. Excellent lens and it handled 61 megapixels well.

Paired this with my Nikon Zf and they are beautiful together. What a difference in feel. All metal. No cheap plastic. Also, the lens is super sharp! Worth every penny.

First time I felt like writing a review.

Coming from a Q2 I wanted a lens that stayed on the body 90% of the time. I ordered 5 lenses with my m11. Maybe this will help out others in the same situation.

First was the 21 f4 skopar, too wide but very fun. 40mm 1.2 voight; too tight, acts like more of a 50 but very nice even wide open + no frame lines in the rf. Lastly; the zeiss 28mm biogon. 2.8 is just a little too dark for my main lens, and the focusing tab was not enjoyable to use. Actually chewed my fingers up. but it was a nice little lens for sure.

Turns out 35mm is perfect for my shooting style. F2 is plenty fast enough unless you're just being extra..

Out of all the lenses I used, this one made my m11 feel most like a medium format camera. Also the focus ring is tighter than on the 40mm 1.2 - that one spins a little too easy.
