Q: 1. Does the 8200i Ai infrared filter work with B/W negatives ? I had heard that it did not and that I should buy the less expensive one for B/W (?).

A: Hi I'm sorry I have not yet tried this with B/W negatives. I did use the infrared filter for work with Ektachrome slides and found that I had to be careful with it because it could reduce sharpness if not carefully adjusted.

A: You will have to check with Plustek's website to make doubly sure on compatibility. I am still on vers. 10.6 and have not upgraded because I've lost quite a few machines on OS upgrades as the manufacturer did not bother to release compatible versions. I'm very happy with my scanner's performance though...

A: The IR dust removal is hardware based and does not require the Silverfast software to function. The included software is not supported under Wine or any Linux operating systems.

Q: 6. Does the film holder keep the film perfectly flat when scanning? Does it do this even if only scanning a single image?

A: The film holder holds the strip by the edges and snaps closed, but does not have a mechanism to stretch or otherwise flatten film that is curled. The small aperture of the scanning sensor compensates for normal curvature, but if your negative is severely curled you may not get good results.

A: True, This Device does not scan 120mm film. Does 35mm film and slides, (110 if you are creative). Time consuming to do, but it pays for it's self when you consider the cost of having it done by some else.
