The combination scanner's infrared scanning and the SilverFast software that comes with it does an amazing job of removing dust and scratches. Also the ability to save scans as Photoshop files is handy and the scans look great. The SilverFast software is a very good scanning software package. 5

I have owned several photo scanners, including Nikon, over the years. This is by far the best of them all. It is fast for what I do with it, large files - 37mb TIFF and 350mb RAW files. The quality of the output is sharp, clean clear and the colors jump out at you.As others have mentioned, the SilverFast software is unwieldly to me. I struggled with it for 4 days before I gave up. Way to confusing and not at all intuitive. Be ready to spend another $ or $ for VueScan Professional, which blows the doors off of SilverFast. With VueScan it is now the complete package and I can ask for nothing more in a slide/negative scanner!!! 5

Gives great scans of slides and negatives. Lots of options and controls so a couple / three hours of learning curve, but well worth it. 5

I needed a way to scan my father slides and my old films. This scanner is a good choice. Some of my films had some scratches and this machine fixed them, making great digital photos. It is not expensive and very useful. 5
