The Leica R-Mount to L-Mount Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x from Metabones is designed for the APS-C crop mode in full-frame L-mount cameras and has a magnification of 0.71x, effectively reducing crop factor from 1.5x to 1.07x. The Speed Booster ULTRA performs extremely well with professional-grade f/2.8 zoom lenses and on high-speed fixed focal length lenses, such as a 50mm f/1.2 will be transformed to a 35.5mm f/0.9 lens with even contrast and resolution from the center all the way to the edges of the image.

Please note, the rear element of the lens cannot protrude from the flange more than 10.5mm and some lenses will require modification in order to fit on the adapter.

Q: 1. Does this adapter can be use on Sony a77 and Sony a99 ii for Sigma 800mm F-mount with AF? If not what adapter do you suggest to be able to use this camera with AF?

A: No, the Metabones Nikon F-Mount Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Speed Booster ULTRA will not work with the Sony A99 or the A77: https://bhpho.to/2dRc0U1

    Q: 2. My current camera is a Sony a7riii. I have a-mount glass 2.8 70-200 G & 85 1.4 zeiss... will this work seamlessly or do I have to completely switch to e-mount

A: Yes, you may use the Metabones Sony A-Mount Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Speed Booster ULTRA with the Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 G SSM II Lens and the Sony Planar T* 85mm f/1.4 ZA Lens. Do note that this is a speed booster, with a 0.71x conversion and will make your lens one (1) f-stop brighter, so your 70-200mm f/2.8 lens will become the equivalent of a 49.7-142mm f/2 lens, and the 85mm f/1.4 will become the equivalent of a 60.4mm f/1 lens. When using a speedbooster on a full-frame camera such as the Sony Alpha a7R III Mirrorless Digital Camera, it is best to use the camera in APS-C crop mode as the speedbooster reduces the lens' imaging circle, so it will not cover the entire sensor. If you are looking for an adapter that will have no effect to the lens, allowing the lens to keep the same focal length and aperture (and imaging circle) for use of the full sensor, I would instead recommend the Sony A-Mount to E-Mount Lens Adapter (Black), B&H # SOLAEA3, for your usage needs. In either case, both adapters listed above allow you to use your Sony A-mount lenses on the Sony E-mount lens mount.

Q: 3. Will IBIS (in body image stabilization) work with this adapter?

A: Yes you can use the in body stabilizer with this adapter.

Q: 4. Will this booster work with Sony A6000 ? Will the autofocus work ?

A: It will work with the A6000 and has the benefit of reducing the crop factor from 1.5 to 1.1 giving you essentially a full frame field of view. Unfortunately, autofocus doesn't work.

Q: 5. So I understand this will not work well with Nikon fx lenses on a Sony a7sii because of its full fram sensor, however does anybody know of any other adapters that would make it possible to use Nikon FX lenses with the Sony a7sii ? Please help!

A: You could use an adapter such as that made by Novoflex, B&H # NOANSNEX.

Q: 6. In reference to my question about this adapter I made an error instead of Sony A77 and A99 ii. Suppose to be Sony a6000, Sony a6500 and Sony a7R ii. for Sigma 800mm F-mount with AF? If not what adapter do you suggest for this cameras with an AF? Thanks.

A: It is important to understand that one would use the Metabones Nikon F-Mount Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Speed Booster ULTRA when using the Nikon F mount lens on an ASPS-C size sensor found on the A6000, A6300, A6400, A6500, but not on a Full Frame camera like Sony A7RII. For full frame one would use a different adapter: https://bhpho.to/2Swmn0U

Q: 7. I have a Sony a6300, will this work with my full frame Nikon lenses including tamron 70-200 2.8 and tamron 15-35 2.8 which are both Nikon f mount as well ?

A: yes as long as you have a nikon F mount lens

Q: 8. What kind of modification is needed for Summicron 50mm? Also, would this work with 2x APO Leica R teleconverter?

A: You would need to contact Leica for more information about modifications necessary to use the Summicron 50mm lens with the 2x APO Leica R teleconverter.

Q: 9. Do this works in both cam 1, cam 2 and cam 3 lenses?

A: Yes, this adapter works with all Leica R lenses.

Q: 10. When it says that certain Leica R lenses need to be modified to be used on this, what does that mean?

A: There is a small metal lip that needs to be removed (with a metal saw/file) on the back of some Leica lenses (listed on the Metabones web site), otherwise it will hit the SpeedBooster's glass element. There is a risk of damaging the lens when removing this lip, so I asked a repair shop to do it for me. I don't think the lip has a mechanical function, but it prevents the back element of the lens to be scratched if you lay the lens on a table. So you will have to be extra careful how you handle the lens after you remove the lip.
